Can you shoot .44 Special in the .44 Magnum version and can you shout .38 Special in the .357 Magnum version?

Yes, you can shoot 44 Special ammo in the 44 Magnum B-92, but you may have feeding issues. At least, mine prefers 44 Magnum ammo. I would assume the same situation exists with the 357 Magnum version also. I really like the Browning B-92.

It's perfectly safe to shoot special length cases in magnum chambers but if you fire enough of them crud is likely to build up at the end of the chamber and make chambering magnum length cases problematic. Given the difficulty in dismantling 92's for cleaning from the breech end, I'd probably give it a miss.

i Own B92’s in both calibers. Specials will not feed in either, though I’m not sure why you’d want to shoot them in either.

When you stop and think about it, feeding two straight-wall cartridges of different lengths is asking a lot of a lever action that was designed to feed tapered revolver cartridges of one length.

I had a friend with a B92 in 44 magnum, back when you could still buy them new. I got to shoot that one on a couple of occasions and it really impressed me. It was slick as snot but I don't recall him ever trying 44 Specials in it.

My more recent experience has been with a single example of Rossi's 92 in 357 Mag. Standard length 38s would flip right out the ejection port if unless you worked the action so slow as to render it useless as a repeater. You could literally have run a single shot faster.

Short answer is some do, some don't. Like any tube magazine, the cartridge stop is set up for a narrow range of cartridge OAL. If you really want to use Special brass the best option is to handload with the Keith bullet. In both 38 and 44 Specials that setup will put you in the ballpark of Magnum OAL with Special brass.

I've got a Rossi 92 that is in the "won't" category, except that it will if you work the action with a certain jiggle/shake motion. Okay on the range but not outside of it. I did once shoot a B92 that ran great with regular 44 Specials, so again, some do - some don't.

My experience as well. Though I no longer own the B92 .44 Magnum. I've refined my revolver cartridge lever action's primarily down to .357's B92's and Marlin 1894's and only use magnum brass. I missed out on more than one nice Rossi .357 because I thought it was a good idea to keep walking a gunshow and come back later...

I had a Rossi ,44 Magnum, and it ran fine with .44 Specials. Dunno why your rifle wouldn't run with them. I mostly used the 200gr. Flat nosed cowboy bullets in it, or 240gr. XTP HPs. It shot well enough. My stepbrother borrowed it and killed some deer with it I never got the chance to do so, but it sure worked for him.

I did kill some small game with it, mostly just fiddling around.

I have a B-92 in 44 mag that functions slick as a ribbon with the Buffalo Heavy 44 special. That uses a 255gr SWC Keith bullet. I have shot others over the years through it and nothing sticks in my mind as a load that it failed to function with.

Well, the votes are in. Curious to know how this works out for pharmvet. Could go either way, that's how rifles can be.

I have a B92 in 44 Magnum. It works Perfectly with Factory ammunition, and I frankly can't see any purpose in using 44 Special ammunition in it.
If I wanted a reduced load, I would just handload them in 44 Magnum cases.
