Probably a ridiculous question, but would a Browning 71 pistol grip shotgun stock fit on a Browning/Winchester 1886? If not, what is the simplest and economical way to get one for a 1886? Thanks in advance.

No, they won’t swap over. The lower tang is curved and the upper tang is shorter on the 71.

If you’re looking to put a PG stock on a straight grip Miroku 1886 rifle it may be more cost effective to simply buy a PG 1886 model and swap the parts over then sell off the other rifle. Only problem is the only stocks I’ve seen for Miroku 1886 models with PG stocks have a crescent buttplate.

If that’s all too hard then take a look at the Pedersoli’s range of 1886 rifles. They have a variety of models and you should be able find a model there to suit your needs.

Thank you. The Pedersolis do have a few models that I lime. Are the actions on the Italian made rifles as strong as the Miroku ones? Can you shoot +p Buffalo Bore or Garrett ammo?

Short answer is I don’t know but contacting Pedersoli, Buffalo Bore and Garrett should provide the info you require.

Given that their rifles are an 1886 design and are made of modern steel I suspect they will be strong actions. I recall reading a post by Turnbull where he said to get the best functioning at high pressures (of any 1886 design) you need to blueprint the locking lugs to tighten up the tolerances in the locking mechanism.

Just be careful of buying anything secondhand as some of their early production had feeding problems. That was quite a few years ago now and the feeding problems have been ironed out.
