I have to wonder with all the black rifles sitting on the shelves and people already buying more than they wanted. Do you guys think lever guns are making a come back? Henry went to the trouble of adding the loading gate. The lever guns always seem to be available in stores.

for some reason I can't quite warm up to henry, I don't care for the diamond on the rear sights, The 1894 is better in the pistol calibers and for the 30-30, I would rather have a JM marlin or maybe better yet a winchester 94. The .22LR's have that cast receiver, if it was steel and the mag tube was better, basically more 9422 like, I would actually buy one. I know henry is a great company but for me that is what keeps me from buying one.

I think they are making a comeback. Being on a few forums, I read more shooters are buying good numbers of 'em. Maybe folks just got tired of all the negative political talk about the "black guns" and figured lever rifles seem more of a throwback and not as "menacing"[their term, not mine!] looking. Besides, lever action handgun caliber rifles are fun as heck to shoot. Just my $0.02.

years ago i had a shop in commiefornia. Henry first came out the finish was so rippled on the receiver i wouldn't stock them.
about 30 years later i picked up a henry 22 with octagonal barrel in a trade,fit and finish is very good and the little bugger shoots gnat's eyeballs out to 75 yards. jm2cw

Our deer camp is located within the steep highlands of Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. Years ago, many guys hunted with "hand-me-down" rifles such as 300 Savage, 30-30, and 35 Remington. But the younger men these days show up with budget priced bolt action rifles with cheap plastic stocks. But I will not criticize their success. Many a young man has taken a fine buck with his 30-06 or .308 rifle. Only two out of eleven hunters last year brought scoped 30-30 carbines for their hunt. From my limited view, it seems like lever action carbines are not first choice anymore.

I can't agree more than with the last thing you said. I don't think they are anyone's first choice around me, I think they are making a comeback just as fun gun.

The only rifle I've used for the first 3 weeks of deer season has been a 336. Levers are my first choice lots of times.

Only a lever gun feels right to me when hunting in the woods. Heck, I use them quite a bit in more open country as well.

I only use leverguns to hunt whitetail here in Central NYS, but the problem is that hunting in general is a decreasing activity .

myself i have purchased some more levers Savage 99`s,Browning BLR`S also Ruger #1`s .

I know I for one am becoming more enamored of them. Last acquisition was a Savage 99 in .308 i traded away an A-bolt Medallion for. I see a Marlin 1894 in my future next, and then likely a BLR. Among my gen x pals, I would say there seems to be an increased interest as well. Bolt guns are great, but life gets a little boring without some lever in it.

I have moved back to using leverguns these days, particularly the Browning BLR. It fits in a saddle scabbard really well and is narrow enough . I don't like a bulky rifle horseback.
I have them in a .243, 270 win and 450 Marlin.
The .270 is my elk & Bighorn sheep rifle
