Ok I admit it my eyes are bad, guess I should have quit pulling my pud sooner as a kid. But the fact remains I can not see to use open sights anymore and do not like peeps or tangs.
Who makes a nice Little 2-7 power or a straight 4 power for a Marlin lever gun?
The Leupold vx1. 1-4x is great for Compact leverguns. Got one on my Marlin 356 Win. 356 shorty rebore and it is perfect.

I’ve got an old M8 2.5 I’m about to stick in a set of weaver lows and put on a rail on my Henry .45 Colt.
It’s not very bright, but it will take a beating (it came off my .44-70). Found it used for the princely sum of $135.00.
It’s a tiny scope, but I’m going with a rail (EGW) because the short tube doesn’t grant much mounting latitude.
If I can get it done in the near future (been meaning to for months) I’ll let you know how it rolls.

I bought a Konus 2-7x32 about 11" not very expensive I think around $ 60 shipped. I had an old steel tube Weaver K4 with the double lateral crosswires mounted on this particular Marlin 1894 45 LC that was getting ...let's say less than clear, an this will replace.

I have a Leupold VX-11-4x20 with heavy duplex on a 783 22 mag, and a VX-Hog 1-4x20 (pig-plex reticle) on a 30TK 30-30. Bought both used and I like them a lot. Small and light, and super fast target acquisition.
The Pig Plex was a little off putting at first, but I've grown to like it.

I'd use a Weaver V3 1-3x20 or a Leupy FX-2 2.5x20 without hesitation if I found a good deal.

All these scopes look the part and give enough magnification for most leverguns.

I am in the process of installing a Leu 2.5x 20 FX2 scope on a 336. I am using the Ashley Performance base because it allows the scope to be mounted as low as possible on the receiver. I also allows forward mounting freeing up the access to the hammer.

I have both the low powered Weaver and Leupold. I like them both.

My favorite small scope has always been the Leupold 1.5-5x20. I used one on a Ruger .338 Win. for about 12 years. Worked out to 400 yards and late evening moose and bear hunts. My current one I have had for quite awhile and is a VX3 with a German #4 reticle. It fits nicely on my Big Bore .356 Win. and only weighs about 9.3 ounces, is less then 10 inches long and has 4.5 inches of eye relief. A great little scope that was very popular in Africa for many years. I will probably grab a used one as a back up for my .338 Winny.and am looking for a 30mm one with illuminated reticle.

Skinner Sights makes a receiver sight that is milled out for medium height Talley QD Rings. If I wanted to scope a Marlin I would use that system and have quick access to the receiver sight.

Perfect! Have one of those on my .357 Henry. On my .45 Colt rifle, I put a Leupold VX1 2-7x33 shotgun scope on it. Both work as they should. If you can find the Weaver that tikkanut has pictured, buy it. Great little scopes.

Would be very interested in your experiences with that mount and optic.

-Finally installed!!! Leupold FXII 2.5x20 Ultralight with Ashley Performance Base and super low DD rings that allows scope to be mounted forward and as low as possible. The LEU has almost 5 inches of eye relief and gives a perfect eye box. Now to the range.

Looking forward to hearing your range report!

I started using the Leupold 1.5-5x20 when they first showed up and my current one , a VX3 has the German #4 in it. I used one on a Ruger .338 Win. for 12 years and had one on a AR for 2 years. Probably the fastest scope I own and the reticle is very good in low light. Light weight and great eye relief, a nifty scope.

P.S. Crap,I'm so old and forgetful I post my thoughts more then once, dang it's only gonna get worse!

Question. Did you have to remove the rear sight to use this mount. It doesn't look like it from your photo but I'm not sure.
I currently have Talleys on a 336 but I like the idea of moving the scope forward to give better access to the hammer.

Yes Sir, the factory rear sight has to be removed for this setup. I attached a photo.

Gotcha, is the front sight a problem with it mounted that low? I’m pretty interested in this mount myself. Did you have to shorten the length of pull on your rifle? I know on their website they say you MIGHT need to do that.

Thanks for the reply and pics, hope you get to the range soon.
Posted By: TxJW Re: Compact scope for 45LC - 04/29/20
I did shorten the lengthof pull to 12.5 with the recoil pad. I like a shorter length of pull. The scope could easily be set back 1/2” if needed. It seems to come up perfectly to a comfortable eye box. I am anticipating the lower magnification will only be a problem at the range. We shall see.

Also, I considered the Leu VX Freedom Scout 1.5-4x 28 sku175074 with 6.0-6.9” inches of eye relief for this setup. It might just be perfect for a regular length of pull. The only issue was if there was enough spacing between the rings for mounting that scope.

No issues with the front sight with the low power.
Posted By: Dinny Re: Compact scope for 45LC - 05/21/20
Have you considered trying a red dot sight instead? Last year I noticed the fuzz I once called a front sight and since then I have found new joy using red dots.

Thanks, Dinny

I get front sight ghost at anything less than 2 1/2X. Even using a 2-7x32 I still set the scope on 3X as lowest setting just to avoid such, if perched on a gun with front sight. Perhaps other folks don't mind it as I do.
I have a Burris straight 4X on my 1894SS and really like it.
