So after thinking and working on weighs to get my 9.5 pound MR pack down to 8 pounds by cutting/shortening some straps and what not I have decided that the daypack lid is WAY to heavy for the 900 cu in of space it provides and the compression straps that hook to the daypack lid from the pack and NICE frame can hook to eachother just fine w/o the daypack lid.

Now going to one of these:

Only 9 oz. A 1600 cu in day pack if I want and will work as a dry bag for my sleeping bag and clothes. So I eliminate 17 oz of the daypack lid as well as 7 oz of my dry compression sack I currently use in exchange for a 9 oz of a better daypack IMO and its waterproof.
Hmmmm...

How do you keep rain out of the sphincter on the top of the 6500 bag?

Daypack lids ride like [bleep] anyhow when you stick more than a litre of water in them, plus they're loud if you're crashing brush.

Let us know how it turns out...

I'm still waiting to hear from your wifes sister BTW wink
Dan,

I am just planning on rolling the extended neck of the pack similar to roll top closure packs. Yeah I have always that daypack lids are awkward. I tried using the daypack lid liek a daypack and find it fits kinda funny and for 17 oz you would hope it would have more space.

I'll remind the sis in law to give ya a call. wink
Don't get me wrong...

Daypack lids and I have a Love Hate relationship.

I actually find myself loading my 6500 right up to the top of the "extended neck" quite a bit. I must be doing something wrong frown
Oh....

I was joking about the SIL...

I may have a line on a nurse, and they're usually hotter than lawyers.

Naughty librarians on the other hand....
No complaints about the nurse I married wink

The SIL is a paralegal so go with the nurse laugh

Ok back to the subject at hand:

Yeah rarely to I fill up my pack to the brim unless I am packing out an animal in addition to gear so hasn't been an issue yet. We'll see though I guess, not selling the daypack lid, but I don't see it getting much use either.
Most guys will cut the backpack straps out and take out the foam in the daypack lid. Not going to get you 9oz but saves a good amount of weight.

If your over by Miles City this year you might find one already modded smile
It's an interesting idea, I'm sure the Alpenglow will clash with my Multicam though. laugh

I've been kicking around the thought of a lid for my Longbow (just for a bit more room without spreading the pack wider or backward if possible). I know there's one for the Mil version of the Longbow, but it's only 600cuin.

I figure another 1Kcuin or so would be a great boost.

Seems like the MR lid and the Kifaru XTL would work, but I'd like to find something lighter for less...

I wonder if there's some kind of mil-esque pouch that would work up there...

I had a Kifaru XTL lid, very heavy for its small volume imo.
