I been looking for a tough (abrasion resistant) pant for backpack hunting..Really like my carharts but the 100% cotton sucks as y'all know... I was wondering if anyone has tried the 65%poly 35% cotton dickies for backpacking?.. Just wondering how fast that 35% cotton dries...

I know there are great pants made for this like kuiu, sitka, ect... but the under $30 price of Dickies has me wondering...

The old guys wear the flightsuit looking ones for mowing the grass and going to the VFW

maybe they're onto something

In CA, why not. Not really a wet climate. Give it a shot and report back. If heading to another more wet climate, I'd be more cautious.

I have some pants from 5.11 Tactical that are the 65/35 blend. They work great for hiking, in fact that's what I bought them for. They do have the "ripstop stitching" pattern. I did a hike last summer that was 7 miles with the first 2-3 through some high and wet weeds. They dried pretty fast and actually repelled a lot of water. They beat the heck out of all cotton pants. I think I paid around $50 for them.

Ive worn military surplus BDU's that are 65/35 hiking and hunting for years. They work pretty well and dry fast when wet. I'd be a bit concerned about the restrictive fit of the Dickies. The BDU's sell for about the same price and are a looser fit for climbing, hiking etc. They are avaialable in green and khaki too, not just camo.

slumlord, I'm 75, but that is not old enough to wear those deplorable "leisure suits". Enlighten me, what is wrong with cotton? Does it not dry quickly enough, or what? Thanks jack

JT yes the cotton does not dry well at all. Think synthetics for backpacking . Sporthill makes a mountain pant . I have worn it from Alaska to BC . There is also the Mamut Champ pant that holds high regards with a lot of guys including myself.
