I ended purchasing the X2 pack with optional scabbard for my Barbary hunt, and any future hunts of course. Question - in my research, many people recommended wrapping the frame in athletic tape to minimize the squeaking.

1) Where do I apply the tape?
2) Do I need to cover the entire frame, or is the squeaking isolated to a certain spot?
3) The bottom of the frame is covered in a plastic sheathing...do I cover this up with tape as well?

I've seen pics and they take the frame out and wrap the whole thing. I think ElkNut did it that way.

Before taping it, load it up and take it for some hikes. It may not be an issue after all.
If it is, I'd call Glenn @ Eberlestock and ask his opinion.

Good advice. Load it up to, or close to, the max weight you expect to carry. Things that are quiet with a lightly loaded pack start making noise when you put some stress on them. For my Eberlestock J107 and X1, it was the XL hip belts at the point that the belts rubbed over the front end of the hip pad. Generous application of candle wax and/or bees wax (Lyman bullet lube) to the surfaces took the squeak away.

I taped just the bottom and it stopped the squeaks for me.

Thanks everyone for the tips! I started out by just taping the areas that are being held by the pack. The areas left uncovered should be easy enough to tape without removing the frame, if need be.

Its not difficult. Take the frame out and wrap the areas that have contact against the pack. I used the hockey stick tape but I imagine that any sports tape would do.

I called Eberstock before I did mine and its the answer I got.
