Anyone have experience with these packs? I've never used an external frame pack before. I'm not due if it's normal, but the pack seems a touch loose on the frame.

I have used the pack for two years now.

When you describe loose are you meaning the bag shifts on the frame when loaded?

It's the only external frame pack I've used so maybe I'm missing something I shouldn't, but I haven't felt like my bag is loose or shifting on the frame.

Looks like a nice pack.

I have been thinking about buying one of these.

Do you like it?
Just an FYI, they're made by Wilderness Pack Specialties.
That thing hugs like a teddy bear. I bought one a year or so ago and had it shipped to my brother to let him "test" run it for awhile. Ended up going on a trip with him this fall and being the nice guy I am, schlepped my Dana Terraplane and let him use the Outdoorsman's.

Long story short, we switched packs for a spell and I cussed him the rest of the way home. The frame is nice and flexible where it needs to be, good strap system, nice how the top "rail" extends about the bag to hang on to your rifle. Comfy. Fully packed it's on the wide side, but it keeps the all the weight closer to your back.

Wish I could comment about meat hauling......eh, maybe next time.

Needless to say, he's shopping for one now.

Schitfire and save matches, if it's good enough for Steven Rinella, it's more than good enough for me....
I have been using an outdoorsman pack for a few seasons. I have packed out 2 bulls and one deer. I have done over a 100 hundred lbs with it. I have not worn any other packs but I think it is comfortable enough! I really have no complaints but I wish they had hip pouches.
I like it. My first hunt with it is this coming weekend.
I really like the two side pockets. Stores my spotter and tripod really well, yet readily available when needed. Having the bag come off the frame is really nice when you need/want to wash blood off of it. I also got their rain cover, which has turned out really nice in a few storms.

As far as packing, the only other pack I can give a head to head is the horn hunter full curl. I did an elk and two deer with it and have done two elk and one deer with the outdoorsman's. Different leagues IMO. Outdoorsman's gets the notch for me.

I haven't put it together yet, but I bought some kuiu hip pockets that I was going to use. Was contemplating on using velcro to keep them in place.

How did the pack do?

Dink
Dink,

The pack did great! Granted, I didn't have a ton of weight in it, but I was very pleased.

I'm planning a backpack hunt with another member this fall, that will be the test!
Thanks.

I really want one these packs. I might have to have one if they run them 20% off again.

Dink
I love mine!
