One of those Kawasaki 650's. Blanking on the model #. Parts are everywhere and they are easy to buy and sell like a playing chip.

I consider them the 1/2 ton Chevy 350 4x4 pickup truck of the bike world.
You can find various bikes that will do certain things better, but for an all around, non fussy, low maintenance, kind of bike that will cruise at highway speeds, as well as be comfortable on a hundred mile long dirt 2 track through the high desert of Northern Nevada, it is hard to beat a KLR.
If you want a more road oriented machine, I'd look at the BMW 800gs.
More dirt? KTM 690
KLR 650's are certainly great bikes. About like a hammer, simple, effective, and reliable.
