There is a lot of great material out on workouts for the Strength Endurance athlete. Most is rewrapped from general fitness and targeted to a specific audience. I have read a lot of books on the subjects, but one I find really useful and well done is Training for the New Alpinism. I feel this crosses over very well to the Back Country Hunter. I am a fan of CrossFit but I have always said that it has become to focused on the strength end. So I modify my WOD's RX lower and increase the reps and or sets. But Crossfit also doesn't modify exercises to a very specific niche. Something this book does very well. Anyways I know there are a few on here that are really into training and just wanted to share a book I think relates to our needs well.
Another good book by the same authors is Training for the Uphill Athlete.
Also recommend Mark Twight’s books.
Steve Ilg also had some good books on training, even if he is kind of a weird dude. I think Ilg’s books are out of print.
Ed_T yes Training for the Uphill Athlete is a good book. A more endurance oriented book.

I have read Outdoor Athlete wasn't a huge fan of it but that was a long time ago. Maybe mid 90's? I think I was still in the Marine Corps when I read it. Training has come a long ways since then. Not that there isn't good valuable information in the book.
Mark Twight had Extreme Alpinism published in about 1999, it is amazing how much of it is still considered relevant today.

It is a very good book!
I've always felt that mountaineering/ski mountaineering should be a pretty close fit for conditioning for mountain hunting. Those look like good reads smile
found Mark Twight's book on a used bookstore site for $7 shipped smile

Twight has some excellent ideas.
I had the chance to visit with him in person several times. Most interesting to listen to him while drinking beers together.
^ Coolio!

book is on it's way; will probably spring for the two by Steve House as well

If you want the Uphill Athlete book, you can have my copy. I’ve read it and it’s just taking up space on the book shelf.
Ed- I think I will take you up on that offer, thanks!

Something I totally skipped over. That changed my life and is a book worth every penny is Becoming A Supple Leopard.

It didn't even dawn on me to talk about it until today when I was looking up something in it. I don't care what sport or activities you do this book will forever change you.

Very nice gesture Ed_T!
Interesting video about Twight and his training business Gym Jones.
Good instruction on form.

Steve House is very much a dedicated Elk Hunter. I have had the opportunity to talk to him at great length. He is a very clear-headed humble guy.
Steve House has been doing very hard things in the hardest places for a long time. He is the real deal and has paid his own dues to earn his reputation. Not many guys that have gone as hard and as high that are still around.
