Have a discount code for BP that makes dehydrated food affordable. I know historically Mountain House and other brands are more highly regarded but I’m interested in Backpackers Pantry favorites. Gotta have something palatable...?
Lasagna and all the cheesecake desserts are awesome.
I've enjoyed their thai and curry meals. Better than MH in my opinion.
oh god no.. MH all the way!

I agree. Go Mountain House.

A long time ago my son and daughter and I, hiked the Escalanter river from the town of Escalante to Highway 12. It's only about 10 miles and specially beautiful. Every corner in the river bottom offers another spectacular view.

We camped about half way down and that night we got out some freeze-dried meals. One was an offering from Backpacker Panty. I don't remember what flavor. It was so bad that the person who was supposed to eat it wouldn't do so. The other sibling and I tried it. None of us could stomach it. So we gave it to the dog and the dog wouldn't even eat it.

Make sure that you read the prep instructions on Backpacker Pantry meals because some of them require mixing and simmering. It's hard to make that work on a camp stove.

Focus on BP desserts. You cannot lift morale any higher than with a delicious, warm freeze dried dessert. None of us can remember the gruel we ate for dinner, but everybody remembers the desserts. True story.

Uncertain to which ones you're referring. Any & all I've cooked are one pouch with boiling water....maybe a stir around midpoint....then disgorge and possibly sprinkle some crumble, crunchies, etc. on top. Delicious and soul-satisfying.

I've got to admit that it's been a long time since I've eaten any Backpacker Pantry deserts. The last one was a long time ago and it was apple crumb cake desert, I think. You had to cook separate ingredients in separate pots then somehow combine them and prevent the syrup from getting cooked solid to the bottom of one pot. It didn't work very well.

Don't forget to avoid Alpine Aire. Yesterday I was going through my stash of freeze-dried meals and discovered a package of some Alpine Aire "Bandito Scramble". I suspect that I didn't read the instructions when I bought it. First you have to rehydrate it for ten minutes, then you have to cook it in a frying pan. That's not something that I would do while on a backpack trip. So I ate it this morning for breakfast. Tasted alright.

+1

Hunting pards all mock me but I keep one of their creme brûlée packages in my pack for celebratory after kill treat. Good stuff!
Beef Stroganoff is my personal favorite flavor. I’ll add a bit of jerky to it if I have some.
