I may sell my S&W 629. It has a Bausch and Lomb silver 2-6x scope on it, in Leupold silver rings. In VG condition, has fired less than 150 rounds. And I have the original rear sight.

What’s it worth?
You didn't say which dash number, if any, or what barrel length. No lock models tend to bring a hundred or two more. Very good condition is pretty low condition for a 629, assuming it is "NRA Very Good". I'll assume it's a very decent gun. $800-1000 dependent only on those things above, without the scope, and not a special model.

With the scope...$800-1000.

Yep. That’s what I was thinking.

It’s a 629-4, 6”. No lock.
When I say “very good” condition, I was not thinking of an official designation of condition.
It’s spent virtually all its life in a safe. Took it to range 3-4 times to develop load. Took hunting once and shot a deer.
Thanks for inputs.
At $800 or so, I’ll let it rest in my safe.

I’d say more. For the -4. Has the endurance package upgrades but No lock and no MIM. I think you’d get 1000 for it without blinking. That’s a particularly good vintage.

This. There’s definitely a no-lock + Endurance Package sweet spot. Is it drilled and tapped from the factory?

That's a good model. It's got all the good stuff but not the bad lock. Possibly even Goncalo Alves stocks? With the scope, bump it to the upper end of what I said. This is just an opinion and estimate, regardless of how experienced. The problem is most guys don't even know the dashes and the differences between them. They're just buying a 44 Magnum. It sounds like a great gun. If I were you, I'd hang on to it anyway.

$800 plus a bit if someone really wants it

A new 629 Classic retails for $989. With lock and MIM. I would think a 629-4, last of the forged no lock 629’s would be more than that in great shape. That vintage is well built, and very accurate. They don’t build them like that any more. I would not sell mine for under $1000.

Thanks, I appreciate the comments.

If you’re looking to sell, you might want to jump over to the Smith and Wesson forums. Many there in the 1980 and forward ‘room’ would be interested in taking that one off your hands. I’d consider it myself. As far as a shooting gun and not a closet queen being pinned and recessed, that’s the pinnacle of the .44 mag, in my mind. Over all others and makes. Or, you hang onto it. It’s not going to drop in value. Lol.

IMO a 629-4 Classic 6” in exc. cond. should bring a $1000 or a little more all day every day. Hell new ones cost that much with mim parts and safety lock. No idea on the B&L scope. I’d take it off and sell it separately.
Check out sold ones on GB.

I've got a crisp Benjamin Franklin....

no, I've got two!! Eh?
Seems to me with the current environment, its a good time to sell if you wish. I'd put 1200 on it and see who bites. I just sold my Kimber CDPII .45 and a 9mm Briley Target master. They sold in a significantly short period. Totally unexpected re the short time in my LGS. I saw a Classic DX go for 775 a while back when prices were down. Things are crazy now.

a new one retails for almost a grand? Not too long ago I purchased a new 629 classic with deluxe grips for 729.

My lgs store just got about 1050 for one, ive seen a couple for sale on some local classified that aren't getting any bites at 1400. I'd say somewhere between the two.

When you get into the older ones, the accessories and tools increase value. For a no-dash 629, that means presentation case, sight adjustment tool, cleaning rod, etc. Condition of that stuff is also key, so the insert for the presentation case needs to have all of the flocking, no cracks, etc. Here's an example of that: https://www.gunsinternational.com/g...-model-629-pre-dash.cfm?gun_id=101277376

The fly in the ointment is that the gun has been polished to a mirror finish so it's not in original condition. I think he's out of his mind at $2,450 but a fool and his money soon go separate ways.

If it's been shot much, then you'll probably top out just above $1k.
