Saw this posted somewhere else and thought we could do it here.

50 Yards
C-Zone (steel, USPSA-IDPA, or anything that's about 12" wide and 18" tall)

5 shots from the holster. It's gotta be five consecutive hits. If you miss, start over.

Post your times for each shot and what pistol-holster you used.

Hey Blue is that 5 draws with 1 shot per draw?
Posted By: viking Re: 50 Yard Challenge - 10/08/20
I remember taking a buck from the instructor back in ‘95 at 50 yards with 38’s. I don’t think I could do it know.

Yep

I just did this a couple weeks back.

When I hit the range I'll give her another go and post times.

Great learning for those that haven't done it.
Posted By: glockdoofus Re: 50 Yard Challenge - 10/09/20
This could get expensive using a 9MM Miraculouse Farce as the bullet will vaporize the steel plate and a new one would have to be hung for each shot. Using the pitiful 40 S&W or 45 Auto would be,okay. They just bounce off and barely leave a mark
All you flingers of hot lead and copper keep this in mind.

I'm giving this a bump. If you're a handgun hunter, its an excellent yardstick for those "Oh Hell there's a _____!" moments. If you carry a handgun or just shoot recreationally, it'll reinforce fundamentals--applied w/o delay--and tell you how good your zero is.

My home range is temporarily closed for the 2nd cut of hay, but I'll give this a go when it's done. Blue will be shocked to learn I don't own a timer, but I do have a phone with a shot timer program. I don't expect to set any time records. I hate to miss.
Posted By: glockdoofus Re: 50 Yard Challenge - 10/13/20
I am expecting a hallelujah moment. And a video. May the Farce be with us all.

Can we get more info on the phone’s shot timer?

I am using "Splits" for Android, Ironbender. My only complaint with it probably has more to do with my phone than anything else. The beep is only as loud as the volume on your phone permits. I have to have it real close to my head with plugs in my ears, or I can't hear the damn thing.

Timers are cheap training tools, electronic muffs are cheaper...

Thanks for the reply.

I see other timer apps in the App Store for iPhone, but not splits.

Please indulge my unknowing ignorance of target size in relation to distance verses distance to target size.
Wouldn't the same relationship to distance at 25 yards be 6x9 inch target as 12X18 would be at 50 yards.
Iffin it are why couldn't someone with a range that has only a 25 yard distance use a 6X9 inch target to do the same stunt?
Due to me being the poster boy of ignoramus ignoramouses WHY NOT unless it is just due to a whimsical whim of BLU DROSUS?
What you gentlemens says?

That's damn good from a level 3 holster.
Posted By: glockdoofus Re: 50 Yard Challenge - 10/15/20
What would be good from my Kindergarten holster? I figure maybe 3 minutes a shot?
I have a Lone Ranger holster that I had as a kid that I can stuff a Glock into.
Would it be okay?
I could get an ankle holster for my 380 and try it.
Posted By: SargeMO Re: 50 Yard Challenge - 10/15/20
Please do. Maybe I have a chance for someone to be slower than me.

I'll buy you a Blackhawk holster if you promise to wear a jacket with a waist adjustment/plastic fob on it at all times.

I played with this a little today and while Spits is OK for strings, I was having difficulty getting it to save data for single shots. I was shooting my old 7 1/2" Uberti Cattleman 44 mag with 44-40 level loads, at a 14" round plate. Here's the rig which is set up butt forward on the left side, for a right hand draw.

Starting with my hand on the gun I got 5 hits on the second attempt, from 2.38 to 3.18 seconds, somewhat better than I expected. I did screw up and delete a couple of individual shots; so this isn't an official entry. What it is however, one hell of a lot of fun and I'll be taking another stab at it.
