I am not sure what shield I have at this point. I believe it is just called an M&P shield 9. I bought it about 5 years ago and it has 7+1 mag and 8+1 mag. When I go to the smith and wesson site, there seems to be a 2.0 , an ez, a compact, etc.... I didn't realize they have so many pistols that look the same. Do they even make the shield 9 anymore? I am looking to see if there is any real reason to upgrade to a different carry gun. Thanks.
I guess you have a 1.0 Shield. If the stripling on the grip is abrasive then it is a 2.0. It is easy to see if you do an image search.
Biggest dealer in PA still sells the 1.0, or was this year.
I have two 1.0 9mm shields, and a 2.0 MP9. Triggers are better on a 2.0, but in my opinion not a huge difference.
I carry my 1.0 99% of the time, and see no reason to upgrade anything.
You have the original Shield in 9mm.
removing the slide is improved on 2.0

I agree with Terryk. It’s a Shield 1.0 and there’s no reason to upgrade. I have one that is a primary carry piece and I think it’s the shizzle. Accurate, excellent ergos for me, never a malfunction, what’s not to like?
No need to futz with that slide deactivation lever on either model.

watch the second video posted above, some people using an empty magazine on the first version to release the slide. this is/was a liability issue for SW(in my opinion) and that's why they changed it.
You're certainly entitled to your opinion. I'll stand by my statement.
The M&P Shield M2.0 has more-sharper stippling and a better trigger. Other than that they are identical except for the "M2.0" on the slides.

The two videos above show the two ways of disassembling the guns. Both methods work for either version.

The lever method was developed as a selling point for law enforcement agencies. To many accidental discharges with the "Glock" method. I guess racking the slide and looking in the chamber before pulling the trigger s is too hard to teach?
