Nice, handy little gun.

They give up accuracy compared to a 48 and the double action isn't as tuneable.

Good gun to carry a lot and shoot little in the woods or without hearing protection. They are considerably loud.

I think this one was pushing close to 1k, but that was a while ago. Today, a decent specimen will easily be over 1200.

My LGS had the stainless version, the 651 for sale for $1050
It was in about 90% condition with the Factory box.
Took a while but it finally sold at that price.

22 mag from a handgun has too much bark for its bite.

Shot way too many 22 mag loads out of my Colt Frontier Scout when I was a kiddo.

I have a few kit guns, model 51 is the nickel one, 3rd from top. When contemplating a kit gun for use, I much prefer to utilize the model 60-4 (top) in .38 special. I like to load it with .38 short colts for practice (reloaded light), then full 38 special loads when out and about. I figured I could load 5 or so 38 short colts for the cost of one 22 magnum round!!

Keith dunlap: I have never owned a Model 51 Smith & Wesson but I do have a wonderful Smith & Wesson Model 651 4" (the stainless version of the Model 51).
This Model 651 is one of my favorite take along "kit-gun" pistols.
It WILL kill a Rattlesnake with just 2 shots of "bird shot" type cartridges where in my experience it takes 4 to 5 shots of birdshot from my 22 L.R. revolvers to do the same.
I am not sure if the improved performance of the 22 Magnum over the same pistol in 22 L.R. is worth the increased price and increased noise, for use outside of Rattlesnake country?
I so seldom see these Model 51's for sale that I am hesitant to relay a value for you - especially without more information on condition etc.
But if in excellent condition in todays market my W.A.G. would be $1,100.00+

OP. Cool little revolver. I’m not a kit gun fan, never had one I could shoot very well. They’re collectible nowadays and bring a pretty hefty price when they come up for sale.

First, VERY nice revolver.

Second. why do you say the DA isn't tune-able?

Its tuneable, just not AS tunable as say, a 48.

Reduced coil J frame springs just dont have the snap and are mushy in comparison to a reduced leaf and strain screw.
The strain screw adds a bit more finesse as well.
