I don’t own one but want one. I have a bucket of small 38s and 357s. I want one for the sights and will most likely carry 38s or my own hand loads in it. I narrowed the front sights on my 642s but I like the firefly sight.

Looks like a really lite carry piece for sure. What is the weight difference between this and an Air weight?

I don’t remember the letters, but I have a 340. Weighs 11.5 oz empty.

Very nice! I don't believe they make that particular model anymore.

The Air weight is about 3 - 3.5 ounces heavier than the Scandium Ti.

Nice grips. Good looking pistol. Do you shoot 38 or 357 through it?

Had the Scandium 357...no thanks! Like hitting your hand with a ball peen hammer. Way too light for a 357, even for 38s.

My younger son used to work for one of the big outdoor chains and got to go to some seminars where stuff could be tried out. The 340 and 329 were the guns nobody shot twice.

I don't like the blinking front sight.

Earlier this year I bought a 340PD.

It is snappy with 357's but not that bad with 38's.

Upon reading some research comments I was expecting way worse.

Have only shot it on two different occasions, both times maybe 20 rounds of combined 357 and 38, recoil was not an issue.

Sure I wouldn't want to shoot 20 rounds of 357 in a row but I didn't buy it for a casual plinker.

I have a vid I'll have to find and post.

That’s awesome SamOlsen! The 340 M&P differs from the 340 PD in that it has a stainless cylinder instead of a Ti. It’s a bit heavier as a result. I doubt I’d be shooting much full powered 357s through mine. 38s and soft 357s mostly. I basically want better sights than my 642s.

I have one, and it is a great carry gun, 5 in the gun with a speed strip in the pocket, still light enough to carry everywhere.

Any issues I get in are going to be up close and personal. Shooting .357 loads are a bit fierce, with substantial muzzle blast. Muzzle blast is a two edged sword, tough on the shooter, but tougher on the recipient of the blast. A bunch of hot air from the muzzle blast into someone's chest at close range will have a more immediate effect than the bullet. Same goes for shooting an attacking dog at close range.

Altamont Grips. Just tried to look them up and it looks like this particular model has been discontinued.

I think so too.

Almost 20 years ago, I used to own a pair of scandium 360s- one in the short barrel, the other with a 3" barrel and adjustable sights. Quickly learned the .357 magnums were brutal. Regrettably I sold the 3" barrel and lost the other to divorce. So now with this one, I stick to .38s, but have run some Golden Saber .357s thru it, which I read aren't loaded to full power, and it was actually pretty tolerable.

Thanks. I bought it used in 2017, then added these grips.
Came with a fancy box too..

The 340PD is a very cool and practical gun.

One of the few available without a lock too.

I tell people to buy if they come across one and the price is reasonable. Schit that cool won't be built forever.

You do know, don’t you, that they make Hillary hole plugs?
Might make it easier to find a suitable gun and save a couple hundred $.

bhemry, I do know but haven’t had any experience with them. Do they work well?

Like the scandium rigs.
329 is a hoot, little J models are different.
Bump finger in trigger guard if you dont grip it right.
Doesnt hurt, but is annoying.

Definitely have to practice with one.

Not the rig for gramps or granny to slather in wd40 and toss in the underwear drawer.( Like so many a J frame before ).

Seen em not fired for ages, lockwork gummed up LOL

Do have a 642 no lock that eats +P
It aint bad.

If I could only have one Scandium itd be a 329PD.

Proly wnd up w a reg 629-3 and hunt for a scandium .357

Buddy has one. He wont sell LOL

Truth be known I don't need a 12oz 357, but I wanted one....lol

Bought a couple hundred rounds of fancy Buffalo Bore ammo.

I've thought about it several times over the years since learning of their existence, just never bought one myself. Haven't read any complaints about function after installation.

But in case the S&W internal lock is the only thing stopping you from buying a particular gun, or paying hundreds more for one without it, and for less than $50, you can remove the internal lock and plug the hole yourself- seems like a good option to me.

Just put a Wilson spring kit in my 642 no lock.
Strut needed cleaned up, as did the rebound slide bottom surface.
Used an EZ diamond lap.
Didnt take much time.
