Colt Gold Cup totally gone over by Nowlin bout 30 years ago. Only thing Colt is the name on outside.

I can't imagine ever getting to Texas for a BBQ, but were I to attend one, I suppose my Colt Frontier S.A. with real Sambar stag grips would have to do. Of course, as I am sure the BBQ dinner would be formal, I'd wear my nice watch to compliment my Colt's.

I have a Colt SAA to go along with the 1911, not sure what a double holster rig would look like with two different Colts.

Does this one go better with a Texas Barbecue or a Cadillac convertible with white rabbit fur seats?

Not much into nickel, chrome, or engraving, so these are about as close as I get to a Texas BBQ gun.

It is kinda morbid to be posting the pictures of the pistol you'd use to kill yourself if forced to attend a TX BBQ....

Do you find better consistency\accuracy with the revolver?

Mine would have to be my Colt SAA, 45 Colt. Was being worked on by Bob Munden the year he died so never completed the work obviously and with stocks by a local guy. Or my Ruger OM .357 converted to 44 Special by Ben Forkin with Turnbull case coloring and stocks by the same person.

My Harton converted 44 Special ranks up there as well.

Barbecue = fancy looking

Closest I get is a Dan Wesson CBOB with green Crimson Trace grips or my favorite S&W Model 69 with custom action tune and a Vortex Venom red dot. Custom holster to carry it. For me fancy is being able to sight well enough to be accurate.

When I can still make steel targets swing around at considerable distances it puts me into a party mood.

I don't shoot the Nickle SAA, it's going to be a gift to my grandson someday.
I do have a SAA in 44 Special that I do shoot, 7 1/2 barrel, nice trigger, but can't do what the 1911 can do.
The adjustable sights on the 1911 can be adjusted to shoot where you look, the SAA uses Kentucky windage, I guess if I shot it more I'd get use to where it shoots.

Hawk, that 1911 is superb. Browning is no slouch, either.

dla: I have been around firearms (mostly Rifles and pistols - with just a smattering of shotguns!) for well over 60 years (probably shot my first 22 at 5 years of age - so 70 years now!) and I have NEVER heard, or seen in print, the term "Texas barbecue pistol"!
And I have been to both private and professional barbecues in Texas.
So, please, fill me in on what you think a "Texas barbecue pistol" is.
Maybe I have one?

What a strange phrase.

Maybe a false memory because it was so long ago, but IIRC it was Sheriff and gun writer Jim Wilson who I first saw using that phrase (maybe minus the "Texas" part?) In 65 years, I can't recall ever seeing a gun worn openly at a bbq, but we don't dress up for bbq in my circles. Is that a Texas thing?

I think there was a cadre of gun writers back in the day that would occasionally have a gathering at a particular ranch for a few days of bullchitting, BBQ'ing, sipping a bit of liquor, and maybe a short hunt of some sort depending upon the season. Of course those old buds would drag some guns along and pop some primers at some informal shooting sessions.
Skeeter Skelton, Bill Jordan and that era of writers back when paper gun magazines was the big thing and the Internet wasn't a thing at all. It was customary to bring a fancy shooting iron and leather to oh and ahhh over. It was dudes doing dude stuff, hanging out bs'ing, shooting some guns and getting away from the day to day hum drum.

This one. It's the only pistol I can consistently hundo with from 25 yards, but it cost more than my truck.

Since this one’s from Texas, it would be my first grab. Honestly though, I have more fun with this little cannon than any other I have.

I have told the story before so won't again but I bought that gun from Bill Grover after a long visit and tour of his shop and future plans. Memorable to say the least.
