Anyone have load data for the 38 special with accurate #5 and 125 grain lead round nose?
Accurate data begins with the 148 DEWC (at least in the first manual I grabbed) listing 4.5 to 5.0 of No.5 for a max of ~900 fps. That is lighter than they show for heavier bullets, so I'd consider them "target" level loads. Your bullet will be safe with those loads.
I find that #5 is similar to Unique in many loads, so you could use Start data for that as well.
From the
Reloading Pages of M.D. Smith:
125 grain JHP or JSP (Jacketed Hollow or Soft Point)
Powder No. 5wt. 6.8 gr.Velocity fps 860Oops, you said lead round nose. The above is for jacketed bullets, but should give a good reference point.
I have lots of load data on jacketed and plated, not a single one of my manuals lists 125gr lead for #5, just my luck I guess. Thanks for the replies fellas.
