Anybody on this forum that shoots 10mm Mag? If yes what gun are you using and how would you compare it to the 41 Mag.. Just came across it the other day and had not heard of it b4. So am curious. Thanks for you time. Cheers NC

Dunno, but the 10mm used to be referred to as the 10mm Norma Mag., IIRC. Lots of people here shoot it.

Maybe you're talking about a different cartridge or I ain't remembering correctly.

I shoot a 10mm Glock model 20 and the model 29 sub-compact 10mm. They are not hard to shoot and have less recoil than other types such as Dan Wesson or Smith & Wesson. The only disadvantage in owning a 10mm is finding ammo at the store but if you reload it is not a problem. Also company called "Double Tap" has a very good selection and the price is better than most stores.

This pistol is a joy to shoot, lots of knockdown power, hits hard with 180 grn bullets. I like the 165 grn for velocity of 1450fps and this bullet really penetrates deep also. Not quite as much as the 180 or 200 grn. but I think those over penetrate especially on the street.

The 10mm Magnum was only available in the AutoMag III, if I recall correctly. It never took off, as the pistols were awkward and ungainly to handle, and big as a house. AMT's quality left a lot to be desired, too. 'Crap' might be a good description of that atrocity. I don't know if LAR ever offered the Grizzly in that chambering, they might have, but I can't think of any others that were suitable. It's quite a bit longer than the 10mm Norma.

I don't have any personal experience with the 10mm Mag, but I know a guy that converted a S&W 610 (10mm Auto) to the cartridge. His claim and the few things I've read all point to the 10mm Mag being at least the equal of the .41 Mag.

Starline offers brass of the proper length and head stamp, but everything else is flying by the seat of your pants. I'm a boring kinda guy, so it seems like a lot of work re-inventing the wheel.

I remember the gun but not the cartridge. I actually had an IAI Javelina in 10mm, but not the 10mm Mag. in question. It was okay. The company mainly known as AMT has suffered through several incarnations over the years and quality varies widely.

Personally, if I were going with a gun as big as the Automag in whatever era or variation, I would get a better cartridge than the one described.

I've considered having a 610 cylinder converted. Could be a lot of fun in a 6.5 barrel.

I have a Colt Delta Elite in 10mm, and a Smith Mountain Gun in 41 Magnum. I have also owned a Glock 20, Glock 29, and Smith Model 657. In factory fodder, the Winchester Silvertips are similar in ballistic performance between the two. However, the 41 magnum can seriously overmatch the 10mm once you move beyond the 210 grain factory loads. If you want to push bullets over 220 grains, at velocities over 1200fps, you need to go to the 41 Magnum. Buffalo Bore makes a 10mm cartridge with a 220 grain cast bullet pushing 1200 fps and that will stand my Delta Elite up on end. It is a hoot to shoot. Still... this does not compare to the power of the heavy 240 to 265 grain loads you can push in the 41 magnum. If you are going to push really heavy loads in a 41 magnum, I recommend you look at a gun in the 52 ounce weight, and not the 40 ounces of my mountain gun.

Not sure we're all on the same page. 10mm Auto and 10mm Magnum are 2 different rounds. Kinda like the difference between 40S&W and 10mm auto...except this time the 10mm Auto is the little brother (or middle child...).

I've never shot or owned one. But have owned a .41 Magnum and own a 10mm.
I've got some loading data for the 10mm Magnum. It shows the 170 gr. stuff at 1440-1505 fps. The 200 gr. stuff runs about 1389 fps. In contrast, my data for the .41 Magnum shows the 170 gr. loads at 1705 fps. and the 210's at 1521. That's a 9.5 inch barrel for the .41 Mag and a 8 inch for the 10mm Magnum. E

Oops, my bad. I did not catch the specific reference to 10mm magnum, for which i know nothing about. If the 10mm magnum is a really high pressure round, I think I would be inclined to lean toward the 41 mangum in a revolver, with a fully supported cylinder, than to risk somethin' with an auto round...

Dogger If you look at the picture it is bigger isn't it? That is why I was asking any one that use one if it matches the 41 Mag. Starline does make brass for it. I think I will just stay with the 41. Thanks. Cheers NC

My old AA reloading manual has it listed. I think they an IAI auto (?) I would have to go look.

I am a .41mag fan. It and the .45LC are my favorite short barreled hunting revolvers. That being said, My Glock G20 in 10mm gets the hunting sidearm nod quite often here, due to it's 15rd mag. The 1300fps 200gr hard cast compare with the heavy revolver loads.

Coldfront, I have recently come to brining home another model 20 Glock in 10mm. This pistol will get a new 6 inch barrel, and 22pound spring for starters. I will leave the trigger pull as factory specs.

I too hope to hunt with this pistol and use hardcast wide metplate ammo (if it will feed ok) in the 200 grain weight. It should make for deep penetration and have good trajectory under 50 yards.

I use the a captured 20# spring on the SS rod with DoubleTap and BuffaloBore heavy load factory ammo. I also have the 9x25 Dillon drop-in barrel.

Now that 9 x 25 is a real trip!LOL
