What's the best shoulder holster fora ruger?
I like the El Paso Saddlery Tanker or the Simply Rugged Sourdough pancake with the chesty puller rig. Both great.

What barrel length? Scoped or unscoped
Mernicle SH7
I really like my 7X Leather unit!

Take a look at Diamond D Custom leather's "Guides Choice" from Wasilla AK.

Love mine!

Good luck!

I have this one and like it. Been using it for 4 or 5 years now.

I designed this rig long ago, and wear it often when hunting. It keeps my Ruger SA at a perfect height and angle to draw quickly, and at the same time, is comfortable.

I also have a Mernicle SH7. Great hunting holster!

I like that one as it runs to the side. Been looking for one that will not clash with binoculars.
Been wearing the El Paso Saddlery tanker the past week and it is one comfortable sumbitch.

More comfortable than the Simply Rugged CPR. But I've not used the Tanker with a pack yet.

I use an El Paso Saddlery Tanker holster. Primarily for foul weather, over my down jacket, under a GoreTex shell.

The other time it sees use is when I am on my Dual Sport bike or riding a 4 wheeler. Other than that I usually just wear a belt rig.

Anyone try the Ringler rig? I have a couple of his Linebaugh hip holsters and slides for my 475/500 LB's and am more than pleased.
Check out the Barranti, Northwest Hunter rig, as good as it gets. Also Rob's Simply Rugged Chesty Puller is very nice, I use both a lot.

I like the El Paso Saddlery Tanker holster, but if you've got a barrel longer than 5.5" I'd go with an "across the chest" type holster like the Barranti, Simply Rugged Chesty Puller, or the 7X holster Whitworth has. The Tanker holster, as can be seen in Mackay's pic, is more of a mid-stomach holster than a true chest (as in, over the sternum) holster and unless you're really tall, a barrel over 5.5" could be a bit unweidly in a Tanker style holster.
I've got an EPS Tanker for a 7.5" Blackhawk. It's very manageable, and rides sorta like a cross draw, but several inches higher. Not having it in the center of my chest makes a long barrel easier to draw w/o forcing it to ride more horizontally. The tie-down loop (as shown in Mackay's photo) is absent in the longer holsters, and replaced with a strap on the back of the holster that allows for a huge accommodation in torso lengths.

There may be better ways to skin a cat, but for the coin, I'm VERY happy with my EPS Tankers.

Yep, Von Ringler does as good a job as anybody. Plus he is a great guy to deal with.

Here is the one I like and use.

The rig will also accomodate almost any belt holster also. Really carries well, out of the way, even for a heavy revolver.
This "TJ Special Shoulder Holster" is one of the best designed and crafted hunting shoulder holsters I've seen. Two of my friends have them and they wear them out in the mountains all the time. They are very pleased with them.

Produced in Idaho by a long time leathersmith, Zack Davis.
