I have the possibility of a trade for a Colt Woodsman, 4-inch barrel with adjustable sights. This one has a 1911-style mag release and a ramp front sight. Ser # is 145XXX-S

I admit to knowing very little about them. Do the sights look factory or after-market? When was this made?

I don't know why my pictures just show a link. I use the "add an image" icon and do a non-floating image, pasting the properties into the box?
What are they asking for it?

It's a later model. Even then the 4" barrel ones are nice.

I carried mine today.

It'd be a trade for a modern .22 auto pistol. I'll probably have to add some cash to the deal. It looks similar to the High Standard SportKing I have - I have 4-inch and 6 3/4 inch barrels for that one. The SportKing doesn't have adjustable sights, though.
I carry the Woodsman in my back pocket with it's chamber empty and barrel up.

If you leave your shirt out it will cover the Woodsman.

I almost got a shot today at a woodchuck with the Woodsman.

The backstop was not safe enough.

It appears to be the Colt Woodsman Target Model, extremely similar to the picture on pp 463 of the Sutherland/Wilson book. The pistol appears original inclusive of the sights. I don't see anything un-original about it. It was made in 1955.

Huntsman is the expert on these.
EE is right about DOM(second series). If it is a push button mag release, its a second series. Grip bottom release is third series. It appears to be 3rd series accro sights installed on a second series
I have both the 2nd Model and the 3rd Model Woodsman but prefer the 2nd Model 1911 type button release over the bottom magazine retainer .
I have never liked the 6 inch barrel Woodsman's and have always preferred the 4 inch.

The serial numbers are not far off this one, either. Thanks - it's always nice to learn something! Looks like I may have to cough up some cash to make this deal since this is a good friend...
As ol' McCloud would say,'Ere ya go......

I didn't know colt put the accro on any second series guns. All I've ever had, had the coltmaster like Bea's. I prefer the accro, tho..... good score.
