I am currently looking to buy my only pistol that I will have for some years.
1st: A little background. I've owned CZ75, Springfield XDM, Sig 1911, Springfield 1911, and for one day a glock.

I am only interested in 45 ACP, (not because I believe it is superior at protection) but because I prefer how the recoil feels on the 45 and I tend to shoot it more accurately.

The XDM was a great gun, but I could not shoot it accurately I think because the length of pull from the handgrip to the trigger was too short for me. The 1911 feels natural in my hands and I shoot them well.

I picked up a clock and well it didn't feel as comfotable as the 1911, I could tell that when I pulled the trigger on the glock my sights did not sway off target like they did when I shot the XDM. and it felt like i would be able to shoot it decent. So I bought a used G21 and took it to the range. this thing sprayed bullets all over the place. I mean horrible accuracy and I felt very comfortable with the gun and how I was shooting it. The accuracy was so bad I took it right back and traded it for a shotgun.

So I really like the idea of the reliability, mag capacity, and supposed accuracy of the glock but I'm really affraid to try on as the last one shot horribly. Should I just stick with the 1911 Ruger commander or do you think I just had a bad glock because it was used?
any problems with the new gen 4's like bulging brass, malfunctions? I've heard nothing but awsome reviews on the ruger 1911 for accuracy and reliability.

Maybe I should buy a new glock to give it another try and if I don't like it I can sell it for the commander when one actually shows up at the gun shop.

I have both and would not say a bad thing about either. To me they are not even close as far as being even.

Now I'm looking at the Ruger SR45 too, but nothing feels like a 1911 and nothing seems to be as slim.

You seem to have it sorted out. That being said, I was surprised that the SIG 220 was not even considered.

NOTHING fits my hand like a good ole 1911, and I shoot them better than any auto pistol I own. They also point like an extension of my finger. I also think the Ruger 1911 Commander is an exceptional value for the money, and a great CCW if you are familiar & proficient with it.
I also love Glocks & have one in every caliber available. I carry my 10mm Model 20 a lot & it's is huge feeling in my hand compared to my many 1911's. You couldn't go wrong with either a Glock 21 or the Ruger 1911 Commander for a CCW. I'd personally choose the one that your most comfortable with. Your considerations should be ergonomics, , trigger, carry weight, concealment, and shoot ability. Also hard to beat a 45 caliber slug for up close & personal defense.

Try the new Glock G30S.

G30SF or try a Sig.

I bought a commander of gunbroker for $635. Maybe years down the road I'll try another glock, maybe the 10mm as recoil from pistols are nothing until you get into 44mag territory or higher.
Never thought about the sig because they also looked bulky and if I was going to get a bulky pistol I thought I might as well go for the glock. are the P220 slim?

I feel confident in my decision. I've only owned 2 1911 but they were absolutely reliable with everything from low recoil to +p to fmj, hollow points, and lead semi-wad cutters

Good price on the Ruger Commander! Most I've seen at the LGS have been priced from $699 to $750. Bet you will like it bet that the Glock 21 you had.

yeah that glock i could hit a paper plate 15 feet in front of me 1 out of 8 shots. I really think it was a bad gun, but not sure until i shoot another glock someday.

They had a commander at my local cabelas but I'm finding my self buying anywhere but them because they are getting really greedy and way overcharging for their firearms. My local gunshop had the regular sr1911 for $680 but I really wanted the the commander. Cabelas sells the commander for $800 even though the price from ruger is the same as the regular 5"

Yep, Cabela's is getting pricy on their guns I don't usually buy from them unless they are having one of their big sales, or if I just kind the gun I want anywhere else. I usually find some pretty decent deals on GunBroker.

Every once in a while, I do find a bargain at Cabela's on their used gun rack of rifles & shotguns.

I love my 220 SAO but if I didnt already have it and wanted a SIG it would be the new P227 double stack .45.

That said both are great guns. For patrol type work I would opt Clock, for range or CCW where the gun can reasonably cared for as needed I prefer my 1991's.

Both are great guns and there is no wrong choice but my heart leads me to grab some the 1911's for probably 90% of my CCW work.

The commander is the best ccw pistol. The g21 is like strapping a box of wheaties to your hip.

The Glock 21 is substantial! I have the SF and it is not light weight by any stretch!

My G-36 will be the perfect 45 carry gun after a trip to Robar for a grip reduction and a new trigger. I tried a new trigger that a local Glock armorer had installed in his and it was wonderful with no mush and an incredibly short reset. I think the 36 will wind up as the perfect commander size 45. To me the Glock 21 is about like trying to shoot a 2X4.

As much of a die hard 1911 fan as I am, I would opt for the G21SF in a full size, or the G30S in the compact, with its narrow slide for a compact carry pistol. Carried in a Milt Sparks 55 BN, it is one that will last a lifetime, with very minimal fuss as compared to a 1911.

Love both platforms, but for pure practicality, I would run the lightweight polymer gun.

well, got the Commander in and ran 100 rounds through it. Glad I chose this. it is an easier pistol to shoot and conceal than the glock (for me).
The glock was difficult to keep from printing and I was just all over the place with it.
Time will tell on the reliable feeding of the commander, but if it's like the other under $1000 1911's I've owned, it wont have any problem with HP or wadcutters. Now I've been looking at 3"-4" 357 revolvers. Oh Brother.

I have a Colt Combat Commander I bought when the retail was $200.00 Over 75k rounds out from it. For my money, a loaded up Combat Commander is the most perfectly balanced gunfighting gun I have EVER handled and fired. I have a Glock 20 and a 1987 Colt Delta Elite and the 45 Combat Commander is THE gunfighter.

My son bought a Colt 21st Century commander. Wiley Clapp. The motto is "everything you need and nothing you Don't". He loves it.

It carries like anything smaller he has had. Shoots fantastic. It is a lightweight commander. I always have had my preference for the full 5" government models, but this one has changed my mine. I want to get one too. Damn, he won't trade me for anything I have.
