I just got a Ruger SBH 5.5" barrel in .44 mag.

Weather was terrible today, so I only got to put 12 rounds through it at pie plates at 25 yards....but it hit right where it was pointed.

I'll be using the SBH for hog and deer hunting, and I want a well made leather holster for it.
Something really made to last, and preferably made specifically for this model/bbl length.

Any suggestions?

I bought a Bianchi Lawman for my SBH 39 years ago - it's still good to go.

A couple of years ago I bought an EPS Tom Threeperson's and it is an even better holster IMHO.

But that Galco rig looks pretty handy.

The older I get the more I prefer the trigger guard to be covered.

I've also used Bianchi's single action holster and I still have a couple but don't buy anymore.

My SBH is 7.5" and is really nice in a Bianchi Lawman. I'm sure they have a model for shorter barrels.

Depends on how you like wearing your gun. I prefer a little higher carry so have settled on the Simply Rugged holsters for my SA carry. Not sure I would want one for a 7.5" barrel but the one I have for a 6" Freedom Arms works great and is very comfortable...

The other one I have fits the FA 97 and Colt SAA size guns. It is a little small for the Ruger Blackhawk.

This one holds up to a 5.5" barrel...







Protects the rear sight and your clothes from the hammer... Can be worn crossdraw also...

I have a 4.62" SBH and like the Diamond D Guide's Choice holster for knocking about in the woods.

I carry the same model revolver in a Simply Rugged pancake worn crossdraw whenever I am in the woods. I also like their Cattleman holsters when I want to wear strongside. I have never had a need for a retetion strap with these holsters.

This is my choice for my 5.5 blackhawk. Whether its my body shape or something else, I just don't like 50oz straped to my hip if I cam going to be doing lots of walking.

The guides choice puts the weight on your shoulder and its easy to adjust to wear over a T-shirt or a winter parka. Add in that it doesn't get in the way of a packs hip belt. You can wear if center of the gut, over to the side, under the arm, or down lower in the "crossdraw" position

Notropis, I was going to go with the Simply Rugged and the kit to chest carry, but there was a waiting period and Diamond D had what I needed in stock.

NoKnees, the weight off my belt is exactly why I wanted a shoulder rig. I hope your body is not shaped like mine....the pistol is not to beat women off of me.....

I went with the Galco SAO holster for my 7.5" Super Blackhawk. I like it because the holster can be worn crossdraw or on the strong side.

I like my Simply Rugged

Have used a Bianchi 111 cyclone for a long time. Can be strong side or cross draw. Do not think it is gun specific but it fits well. I like the thumb snap secure,quiet,quick and simple. The simply rugged sound good but have not seen one yet.

I like the cross draw worn fairly high. It is out of the way but easily accessible while standing, sitting, or riding tractors and any other vehicle, and does not interfere with coats. It may look awkward but is actually not at all. I put it on when I get to the farm and take it off when I leave.
