I just might be getting a Ruger 3 screw in 41 mag, and was wondering if anyone has any good hand loads for this cartridge?

I've been using/reloading .41 Mag. for many years, both handgun and rifle (Marlin 1894S). For what purposes do you want the loads?? Hunting larger game, small game (coyotes, rabbits, etc.), plinking, self defense?????

What length barrel is on your Ruger?

Lots of good bullets for various uses out there for the .41 Mag.

I was waiting to see an answer to Leanwolf's question, and there are many here that have been shooting the 41 and reloading for it a lot longer than I.

As a matter of fact, just a few short months ago I was asking for help selecting loads for my new Ruger. Many good people gave a lot of great advice, and I am very thankful.

So far I have been working with three bullets and two powders. My Ruger loves the Hornady 210 XTP over 21 gr of H110. And here is another excuse to show off the following target.

This group measures 2.5 inches and is at fifty yards. The revolver was rested on sandbags at my bench and had the 1.75X nikon attached at the time.

This is one of only two groups I have yet shot in this manner, the other was with Sierra 170 JHC's over 23.4 gr of H110 and shot to about seven inches at fifty yards.

This is a photo of the revolver, atop an overturned five gallon bucket. It is a brand new Bisley Super Blackhawk Hunter 7.5 inch in stainless. This model come with factory scope rings which attach to the barrel rib. They are limited edition and uncatalogued, but distributed through Davidson's.

I also shoot a few of the Sierra 170's over ten gr of Unique. That is a pleasant shooting round and is great for practice. It recoils a bit less than typical 357 magnum loads.

My practice so far is to use CCI 300 large pistol primers with Unique and CCI 350 large pistol magnum primers with H110. Many folk here have other ideas of good primer selection but this is what I am doing.

I soon got tired of paying nearly $20 per hundred for my 41 cal bullets and was advised (Thanks RJM) to give Berry's 210 gr copper plated lead bullets a try. They are available from Berry's mfg, and cost about $8.50 per hundred in lots of 250. While I have not seen the accuracy potential from the Berry's which I have from the Hornady 210's, they do shoot better than I from field positions. I have been burning 7 gr of Unique behind the Berry's 210, which gives it an MV of about 800 fps. This is a VERY pleasant practice load and very inexpensive at about 12 cents a shot after brass is purchased.

I also use the Berry's 210 with up to 10 gr of Unique for a bit more velocity. Or if I feel like dealing with a bit of recoil I shoot the 210 Berry's bullet over 21 gr of H110, which puts the MV up around 1400 fps.

I have recently begun to shoot these loads in a new Marlin 1894 carbine. They work well there also.

Over the past 90 days or so I have recieved a lot of good advice in regards to the 41 mag on this forum. There have been several pertinent threads. Give the search feature a try with "41 magnum" as the keyword and limit the search to the "Handguns Forum". I think you will be pleased with the results.

Hello
I have loaded Hornady 220 grain X.T.P. in this round using H-110 powder, dispensed at a even 20.0 grains and standard Winchester primers with a heavy crimp. The recoil was heavy and I did chrono the load out of my model 57 and it has a 4" barrel at and average of just under 1400 F.P.S. This was pretty impressive to me and the cases appeared fine with no sticky extraction, or problems seen from hot loads as far as primers go, but a bit of stretch was present, as it showed some small vertical lines in the spent cases. The primer was a bit flattened but no evidence of too much pressure or flowing as well. I feel I could actually go a bit more but would rather be conservative of my prize revolver.
I have used and seen Great results from this link. I hope this helps, thegeneral.

My Ruger 41 has a four digit serial number & has been digesting speer 200 and 220 gr. half jacket semiwadcutters on jack rabbits & deer since it was new. use 2400 powder (18.0 gr. or so) and cci primers. Recently found some 265 gr. lead bullets that shoot good with W296. haven't been able to try them on any thing "live" yet though. The "half jackets" shoot pretty good in my Taurus "tracker" and a couple of S&W M57's I have on hand.

Buddy, you came to the right place! This here's .41 heaven, to be sure. It's a good place to be. A good search of the .41 Magnum ought to bring up all sorts of good info. And if the search function gets puzzling, let us know.

...for .41 Shooters? Ok, ok...I've been out of state and admit I have not been overly good....to the tune of 3 new .41s.

Was visiting a friend in NY who was a big pin shooter. He had decided to get rid a bunch of guns that he was no longer shooting and one turned out to be a P&R M57 4" blue he won at Second Chance 10 years ago...so the gun, the 350 rounds of brass shot through the gun and 150 rounds of reloads are now mine...as soon as the gun gets shipped to my dealer that is.

Then there was the 4" nickel M57 LNIB on GunBroker that no one bid on...so it is being shipped also.

And finally was a Marlin 1/1000 Cowboy 20" octagon that was also on GunBroker for cheap money....

...yes .41s are a sickness....Bob

Hello 41 Gunner
Hope I didn't STEP on your toes by posting YOUR Link. I VALUE any sources on the mighty.41 magnum round for reloading. This is a seldom hit on caliber as most figure the .44 magnum to be KING.. To me the .41 is KING and the .44 is just alot more blast and a faster dropping bullet..I had a .41 Mag. handgun and sadly swapped it for a .44 Mag. it did not take me long to go back to what worked for me, and this is purely personal opinion as I PREFER the .41 mag. Also THANKS for the Second link. Much appreciated. thegeneral.

General, not at all, JimT put the data there long before I put together my site, and I put the data together for just this reason, a fellow 41 mag shooter wanted data.

I've been shooting a 4 5/8 Blackhawk for a couple of years now. My prefered load is 11gr of HS-6 topped with a 215gr lead swc.
I have a SRH 44mag that I would love to trade for a 41 Redhawk.

H-110 and a good 210gr bullet is hard to beat in the cartridge.
