Shot it today for the first time. It's not going to replace my Glock 17, but no jams in a hundred rounds of FMJ. Haven't gotten around to trying hollow points, yet. I like it. If it was all I had, no doubt I'd feel pretty confident in my abilities with it after enough range time and rounds down range. Nice to have just because it's a classic design, regardless.

I'm not a big fan of the 92 design, but I'd take the Taurus version before a Beretta.

Thats how I feel, too, just based on the frame mounted safety.

On a striker fired handgun, sure. The M9, however, is a hammer fired double action, so at least should have a decocker. If it has a safety, too, it should be 1911 style, as that's a natural motion, and it should be on the frame, so as not to interfere with slide operation.

It's interesting that the Beretta 92 started with a frame mounted safety. The Army asked for a decocker, and Beretta lacking in imagination went with the decocker that everyone had been ussing since the 1930's and that's how they ended up with the slide mounted safety/de-cocker.

Taurus came up with the frame mounted decocker and very quickly H&K copied it for their USP line of pistols.

Taurus quality is very hit and miss, yet the PT92AF seems to always be a good gun. I suspect it's because the PT92AF is used by several military's and LE agencies across the world. They probably hold Taurus' feet to the fire on quality.

Where with their other guns, Taurus seems to only be interested in quantity and low price.

It's too bad, Taurus has a world class production facility and they're capable of doing first rate work; they just choose not to.

Yeah, I wouldn't buy any other Taurus handgun besides the PT92AF. I do have their replica of the Winchester Model 63 which is of very high quality, coming close to the old Winchester-made originals. I also have their Model 62, which is also excellent.
