Hey guys I just wanted to share my new Colt Delta Elite XE 10mm. I have always been fond of the 10mm and I regularly carry a Glock 20 Gen 4 while hog hunting. This is going to be my CCW/ Woods gun.

Based on recommendations from Ned Christiansen, I done the following:

fit and installed a EGW flat bottom firing pin stop.
Replaced the dual 23# recoil spring with a Wilson 20# single spring.
Wilson stainless steel recoil spring guide.
25# Wolff mainspring.

I also added...
Wilson medium pad solid trigger.
EGW barrel bushing that gives .001 tolerance to both the slide and barrel!

I'll post pics when I get a chance to get to the range.

Do you handload?

I do handload. Right now in my Glock I'm running 10.0 grains of Blue Dot behind a 180 grain Hornady XTP. Gives me almost 1200 fps. Works well on hogs.

I would like to try some of the Double Tap stuff for hogs though.

I am interested in loading some 155 XTPs for carry in the Delta at around 1400. But I would have to check for over penetration.

Over penetration is BS

It's not BS if you don't want to shoot someone behind the bad guy. I've watched a round go through a guy and hit a car 60 feet away at a McDonalds.

I picked up a box of "Team never quit" ammo from Cabelas. Marcus Luttrell's logo. It's a frangible hollow point.

The real advantage of the 10mm over the 40 and others is to shoot the heavies (180gr-220gr)at good speeds. It is not crowded in the wilderness very often.

True. I would love to try the heavy weights for my woods carry. But I want to develop some loads for my CCW as well. I agree if your gonna carry a 10mm in the woods go all out. Why carry a 10mm loaded like a 40 S&W? I really like the idea of those 220 gain!!

Yea, I heard Ned was very good. I wasn't all that knowledgeable with 1911's in 10mm even though I have shot other 10mms for years. I've had many 45s though. His set up seemed to make a lot of sense and people I talked to had great luck with it so I thought I would go for it.

BTW.. any of you guys try the Wilson 10mm mags in the Delta? I have had great luck with their 45 acp mags and was wanting to try the 10mm.

Wilson mags in .45ACP are good; the ones I've tried in both 10mm and .38 Super have sucked sweaty balls. (And that's trying them with different guns and loads.) The CMC 10mm mags I've used have been good.

Not to butt in or go off topic to much, but those two factory Colt mags for the 38 Super I got from have ran like lubed glass Mesabi, those little bastids ROCK!

Try Tripp 10mm magazines

..........not really very unusual recommendations.


Agreed. The 10mm shooters here have talked about those tricks for a long time.



Most important is learning how to load a 37k psi load for a gun designed for 18k.

Im sure you guys have known about the delta set ups for a long time, but I am new to the 10mm 1911 platform and just found out about it. Better late than never. That is why I came here to get the opinion of those who know....thanks guys!

Congrats on your new Colt. My Delta Elite came with Colt branded Metalform magazines. I picked up more Metalform mags and they work just fine. I've also picked up some 9 round Tripp Cobra mags for my Colt. I have read is several places that the Wilson 10mm mags did not work the best, so I skipped them.

You have a niece piece there. The Delta is prized by many.

Now, take care of it. Try not to hotrod your loads. There is no need. The 10mm is powerful enough. That extra 50 to 150fps comes at a stiff price. Let us know when you start loading for it.
