Recently got a 6" 357 Sig KKM barrel for my Glock 22.

First time out shooting it. I have some S&B 140gr FMJ FP. Advertised velocity is 1352 fps. I measured them at 12 feet, velocity 1381 fps.

They were hitting just a tad high at 20 yards. Not bad at all, definitely know it's more than a 9mm.

That .357 Sig sounds like some fun. Never shot one.

For factory ammo, I've found S&B to be some of the best for the money. Having recently found a great place to buy it doesn't hurt, either.

A buddy of mine has a couple of G35 pistols with KKM 357 Sig barrels in them and RMR sights, they are definitely flat shooting. He had me make a couple of brakes for them; loud but they track pretty flat and are easy to shoot well.

I can see this setup becoming my main outdoors pistol.

I was curious about that SB ammo, thanks for the post. I got an alpha wolf (5 inch) for my G 35. It recoils differently than the 40, in a good way. To me, it has the flip but not push back of the 40 cal.

Put a 6" Lone Wolf barrel in a Glock 40. Extremely accurate and soft shooting. Also have a Glock 19 with an extra 23 upper with a 4" LW barrel in it that shoots great.

Velocity from the 6" with extreme velocity spread:

Buffalo Bore 125 GDHP: 1536/36

Underwood 115 Xtreme Penetrator: 1581/84

Speer 125 GDHP: 1471/11

Winchester Whitebox PP load 125 JHP: 1487/11

Speer Lawman 125 TMJ: 1382/20

Viking, this is my first time trying S&B ammo too. I've always seen it and noticed the price is very competitive. My first impression is that it is good ammo.



RJM, Those are some nice numbers. I remember your post not so long ago when you shared your results in the Glock 40. That info was part of what finally got me to get a barrel ordered. I'd been thinking about it for a couple years but it always got pushed to a lower priority than something else.

How would you compare recoil compared to the 40?

Not much difference in recoil to the 40 in my perception. My 40 load is a 180 gr at about 1050 fps.

RJM, I highly recommend trying the Underwood 90gr Defender load as well. I forget velocity from the 6" barrels but it was a bit over 1700 fps, and more accurate than the 115gr Penetrator bullet. Even though it's only a 90gr bullet, it's a solid and penetrates as much or more than the 125gr hollow points in my testing.

Those Xtreme Defender loads in 90gr and 65gr look to get some serious speed.

Kinda makes the 357 Sig keep up with the 5.7FN velocity wise.

Pretty impressive velocity for the Underwood 115 and the Buffalo Bore 125 ammo.

It's too bad that the 38 Casull never really left the launch pad - with a case full of 296, mine will drive a 124 XTP at 1850.

I have a question being as how every body is talking about reducing the hole in the barrel and upping the speed! Does any one have 9 x 25 Dillon barrel for their 10MM
Underwood show some serious speed for the cartridge. Also would reloading 9 x 25 Dillon be any more difficult that doing the 357 Sig. Thanks for your inputs. Cheers NC

I haven't tried the 65gr bullet, it's pretty new, but looks interesting. I might have to pick up a box.

The 357 Sig uses more powder than the 5.7 anyway, just sayin... That 65gr load looks like right about the same velocity I measured recently from a 16" PS90 with 40gr FMJ.

I've loaded some of my 105gr cast bullets up to ~1850 fps from a 10.5" carbine in 357 Sig, but the blowback action didn't play well with the bottleneck case. When the shoulders start moving forward and the case neck disappears, you know the bolt's opening too fast and it's time to back up.

Northcountry; I haven't loaded for the 9x25 yet, but the longer case neck should make it easier to load for than the Sig.

Started sparingly buying S&B fmj in 9mm 124 gr and .45 ACP 230 gr a couple years ago. After shooting it and running the spent brass through my tumblers, continued buying more as price and free shipping offers came up. Surprisingly, it is often some of the best deals out there.

After finding a guy locally who will beat online factory ammo prices, with no tax and no delivery charges, that's where I'll be getting my ammo in those 2 calibers and 10mm for the foreseeable future.

Did some 100 yard plinking with the 140gr S&B. Point-of-aim was point-of-impact.

Not bad, and makes sense considering it is just about 2" high at 20 yards.

I'm really liking this setup.

Just for fun - check out Underwood's 357 Sig loading with the 65gr Lehigh solid copper XD bullet. 2100 fps from a non-expanding solid that produces a pretty significant wound channel. I carry the 90gr version in 9mm, and had to order some of these 65's to try out.

I've been eyeballing the 65gr and 90gr Xtreme Defender loads.

They would probably pick up some extra velocity from 6" too.


I might have to get a few to check out.

A few months ago, I bought an Alpha Wolf barrel for my G35. It is chambered for the 357 Sig, also. I really like that setup. Like you mentioned, 100 yard shots are flat and quick. I have never been much of a 40 S&W fan, so the pistol wasn't seeing much use till I converted it. Now I carry it pretty often.
