As far as terminal performance, what are some good copper jacketed factory loads, for deer out of a 5 inch 44 mag.

I am eager to hear experienced answers myself. I would guess Hornandy Flextips, XTPs and WW box for starters.

I can only speak for the XTPs, but I'm sure there are others. I would use them for deer hunting.

I've used nothing but LBT-type hardcast for several years, now. They seem to do better at penetrating and breaking bones than the jacketed expanding type, but do get less response "to the shot".

I have shot several antelope with WW 240 soft point.. No trouble..

I have Chrono data for Heuters .44 mag , 240 grain, but it's FPS is from a 18" barrel on a Ruger 44 mag Carbine. Doubt it would help you much for a revolver considering the 13 inches difference.
Also have chrono data for a 210 gr HP handload with CFE Pistol Powder, that matches the velocity of the box Heurters ammo. The 210 HP bullet is my deer rifle round.

I’m thinking about running the 225 Barnes buffalo bore rounds. Everything seems really expensive I guess I need to just get some dies and reload for it

Before casting, I used Hornady XTP's and H110 and killed a bunch of deer. 5" barrel.

I'm going to try some cast 200gr FN this year at 44 special velocity and see how they do.

RWE, 240 grain xtp and how much 110. How far were your shots, I’ll probably keep it to 75 and in.

I'll check the loading manual where I wrote my notes, but if memory serves "at or near book max" according to the Lee manual at that time.

My furthest shot was 110 yards, that was scoped.

The gun is unscoped now, and I took most of my shots inside of 40. 75yds won't be a problem.

Frankly, it stings on repeated practice shooting, but I've never noticed it hunting.

If I hadn't went hog wild and loaded up a metric crap ton load at the time, I'd probably back it down some.

You don't need all that for deer. Any 240 HP will work fine. I like XTP and Noslers. As far as factory ammo, Remington white box 240's worked well, but I suspect whatever shoots well in your gun will work fine.

24 of H110 is a good load, using CCI 350's. Hornady's data goes up a bit farther, but you won't get into any trouble with 24 gr.

...... When I first got my "new to me" 7.5" Redhawk in 44 Mag. eight years ago this month I was chronographing factory loads out of curiosity before I started handloading 44 Mag. for it. The 240 gr. Win. JSP factory load was averaging 1414 fps according to my notes and had superb accuracy and I figured on using that for deer if I hadn't decided on a suitable handload by the time I wanted to go hunting. Never had an opportunity to try that on an actual deer because I soon found some nice handload recipes that were suitable and lots cheaper than factory ammo.

That's about how fast the 24 grains H110/240 grain JHP combo goes in the 7.5 guns I've had. Some pistols were slightly faster, some slightly slower, but in that region nonetheless.
