It looks like someone is going to attempt another resurrection of the ill-fated Bren Ten pistol. The announcement was made on Bookface yesterday, apparently, I just found it today. There are plenty of 10mm fans here, so I thought I'd share the news.

There was another company trying to bring back the Bren Ten in the 1990s, Peregrine Arms, but they folded before they got any pistols out of the door.

How this pistol will compare to a Tanfoglio Witness, I cannot say, nor can I say if the magazine situation will get any better, either. This seems to be a new venture, but you can read about it on Facebook and learn all I know all by yourselves, if you're interested.

I got to play with a couple original Bren Tens when they were still in production, and they were nice, but a little rough around the edges, still they were "interesting" and I wanted one, but couldn't afford the magazines, let alone the guns. I had my Colt Delta Elite, and it was nice enough to moderate my enthusiasm, anyway.

In any event, if you're still halfway interested, it will be interesting and fun to watch how it gets along. Or doesn't...............

I was at a SHOT show years ago, the Bren Ten was on display........interesting when new on the scene. This will be interesting.

Read folks wanting a Smith 2.0 in 10mm - anyone have any news on that happening?
Posted By: ratsmacker Re: Bren Ten Again? - 02/18/18
Chuck Warner, the pistolsmith, is the one building these, apparently they'll come with three magazines, and will cost $3500. Of the first 50 made, 40 are already spoken for. Deposits are $500, all this according to the Facebook page (closed group). I'm fascinated, but cautious, and the price is way outa my price range, but it is surely interesting stuff.

insanity. Just buy a Glock 20
Posted By: ratsmacker Re: Bren Ten Again? - 02/18/18
Glocks don't fit my hands, though, Sam. I had a Delta Elite for quite awhile, and my hands liked it just fine, but Glocks just don't work for me. I know, I've tried them. I wish they did, they're affordable and available. I've handled the original Bren Tens, and they felt exceptionally good. There is room to hope that prices will come down on the new guns, after the initial subscription is sold.

The new magazines will NOT fit the older, original guns, I'm told.

I can't afford them right now anyway, but I like to keep informed about such things. I'm kinda like 6.5BR, I'd like to see an M&P 10mm pistol, but I'll bet it would be "snappy" in the recoil department. I've still got a bunch of 10mm ammo I loaded for my Colt, back in the extra bedroom. Just a good "major" IPSC load, but a bunch of it. My Colt loved it.

That, and Smith might do well bringing back their Gen 3's.

I have wanted a Bren Ten for a long time. Found one with 2 mags for $3200 on 1911 Addicts, but just could not pull the trigger on something I would be afraid to shoot because NO replacement parts or service.

So I sold my Delta Elite and will be saving for one of the variations of the Witness 10mm. I've heard good things.

I guess I've come to the realization that I'm no Sonny Crockett....after all.

I recently got a Witness 10mm - the steel frame version - and really like it so far. Thinking about trying the polymer version, as I've seen several for sale reasonable lately. Had a Glock 20, had problems with it and sent it down the road - but it was "fun" to shoot.

I have never been a fan of the Bren 10...all bluster and nothing interesting to me for the most part. They took the CZ75 design and complicated it considerably to the detriment of the design; just kinda goofy. The ones that were made were made fairly well and they were nice to look at. But I once picked one up and thought "this is what the shooting public has been waiting for".

Now all that said...

There are those who disagree with me, and who loved the Bren 10. And Chuck Warner is a man with some considerable talent in manufacturing and as a gunsmith. I have no doubt if he makes a Bren 10, that it will be everything anyone ever dreamed a Bren 10 would be, and a fantastic piece of the gunmakers art. And if Chuck says he'll deliver...well, it may take some time; but he will deliver.

That is what I would buy if I were wanting.

I have a buddy who had a Bren Ten. He sold it about 5 years back. Cracked me up because he told me he’d gotten top dollar because he’d sold it to some Miami Vice nerd.

At $3500.00 the Bren Ten could be money well spent as an investment. They have a cult following and there will not be many built by just one gunsmith.
Posted By: 1911a1 Re: Bren Ten Again? - 02/20/18
My friend has two originals. One is the full size two tone hard chrome/ blue and the other is the rare commander size one called a Special Forces. The commander size one is in mint condition.

He gave me a 10 mm Witness standard model in wonder finish. It is a nice pistol but I honestly have not shot it much. I call it the "Poor Man's Bren Ten"
Posted By: supercrewd Re: Bren Ten Again? - 02/20/18
In the CNC era, probably much easier to make the gun today than in the 80's.

laugh

It ain't very purdy, that's for sure... blush

They tough, kinda like an AK-47.

A bit crude but they do go bang when you pull the trigger... grin

This one had a trigger job by my FFL, who is a Glock trained armorer, retired SWAT sniper.

I grew up with K frame S&W's, 1911's. This trigger is a whole different animal and I'm trying to master it.

Another bud, a retired LEO range officer, said to not put my finger pad on the trigger like with the guns mentioned, but to position the trigger in the first joint of the trigger finger. New technique for me, but it seems to work.

Naw, I wouldn't enter it in a beauty contest...

I would gladly enter my Glocks in a beauty contest. It looks like what it was made for; it looks like it was made to take names and kick Aztecs.

Only Aztecs?

I located an unfired 10mm Match Elite with some extras and it's headed my way! They are hard to find. Can't wait to shoot it. I'm into it for about $100 less than what I sold my Delta Elite for.

Now that one is purdy for sure.

I like it.

Not sure how much it weighs. It may kick a bit.

I like the CZ-75 design, had a tricked out EAA Witness Tanfoglio 9mm comp gun that my son ended up with. Nice gun.

When Dornaus and Dixon first offered the 10mm Bren Ten, I sent in my deposit. The company folded before I got my gun, lost my deposit.

The newer Italian CZ-75 9mm clones are good guns, the 10mm's are probably good, just never handled one.

They're all steel; pretty beefy. The only negative I've heard--and it's not much of one--is that the factory recoil springs are a bit wimpy. Going up a few pounds with a Wolff spring seems to be the prevailing idea.

I always thought that was what the Bren 10 should have been. Very nice sir.

At least Sonny Crockett knew enough to abandon the Bren Ten for a Smith 645.

Posted By: McCray Re: Bren Ten Again? - 02/22/18
Well, he kept dropping the magazines in Miami harbor, so there is that!

Those are some high-dollar mags.
Posted By: GunGeek Re: Bren Ten Again? - 02/23/18
I wonder how many single shot Bren Ten's are still out there? Does the CZ or Tanfoglio magazine fit, or be made to fit?

Warner has said he's got the magazines being made by Megyar, or whoever, that big outfit that makes magazines for damnedneareveryone. That's a bit far out right now, though, he's not ready for them yet. The CZ or Tanfoglio magazines will not fit, as far as I know. The FB page has all the information I have, that's where I got my info, after all.

As far as single-shot Bren Tens, there's a heckuva lot of them out there, and I don't think the new magazines will fit those older guns. For awhile around here, you could almost always find a D&D pistol, but there was that big empty hole in the butt that prevented a lot of sales.

The EAA Witness 10mm is pretty darn good - anybody have a picture of a nice Bren Ten?

I just ordered 6 Mec-Gar 14-rd mags for the 10mm Witness at $25 apiece. And they will actually work!

Very nice looking pistol 257. A fellow had a 10mm Tangfolio at the range a while back and allowed me to shoot it a few times. Wasn't too bad at all but, he didn't have the old Norma ammo. laugh Same pistol?
Posted By: gzig5 Re: Bren Ten Again? - 03/13/18
I just recently picked up a Tanfoglio Witness Hunter 10mm from a member here. Seems to be a nicely put together pistol. 175gr lead at 1100-1150 fps is soft shooting. 180 JHP at 1250 have some bark but this gun (it does have some heft to it) handles them easily. I need to drag out the Kimber 1911 for a side by side but I'd say at this point the 10mm is more manageable with stout loads. Something to be said for 14 +1 capacity with the 10mm Auto round.
Posted By: Boogaloo Re: Bren Ten Again? - 03/16/18
Will this be the 3rd go-round of the Advance Deposit Scam...?

Back in the day, the Bren 10 was the only pistol so chambered, so it had a lot of interest among those who were sold on the idea that the 10 was the solution to every non-existent problem i the known universe.

Man...if I only had a 10.

Then Colt came out with the Delta, Smith came out with the 40.

I really enjoyed the geniuses at the FBI adopting the round agency wide only to drop it a year later...the worlds greatest novelists would never have dared to make that up.

I can just imagine all the pinheads bitching about it...great stuff.

Time has not been the friend of the Bren Ten...technology marches on.
Posted By: rost495 Re: Bren Ten Again? - 03/18/18
Glocks come in SF IE short or smaller frame. Works on my wifes hands on her 115 pound frame no issues.

About to put a new tube in one of the 3 we have, but at this point, its accurate enough and easily powerful enough with 180xtps to kill deer/pigs at 50 yards... not quite as accurate as I'd want for further out hence the new barrel.

With 3 of them here, I've yet to have a single issue with the glocks.

All this from a 1911 fan....but now we carry and shoot glock 20s and it makes way more sense in these times.
