Here's one just for fun - stackable wadcutters in big bore .45 revolver rounds. I've been experimenting with this for years in 45 Colt and 454, but finally got around to making a bullet mold for them a couple years ago. It drops 82gr .452" wadcutters, they seem more like thick coins than bullets but they do fly true and cut round circles in the target.

In this long 460 S&W case, I experimented with a number of load combinations and settled on 6 wadcutters over a mild load for something similar to buckshot out of a revolver. It's kind of entertaining to fire 5 rounds and find 30 holes in the target. I don't think there'd be much left of small game, but it might be interesting to try on a possum or other vermin.

that's cool

Probably a lot more energy to target than my load of #8 shot. How much does the pattern open to, at say, 20 feet? memtb

I'll try to get some target pics this weekend, too dark when I get home during the week this time of year. I've been testing loads for it at 10-15 yards. At 10 yards it's anywhere from a tight cluster to a pattern I can cover with one hand, fingers spread out. Usually it seems to put 3 or 4 in one large hole with the rest spread around that. It's definitely more precise than shotshell or buckshot loads. For some reason loads with 6 of these wadcutters shoots better than 5, with several different powders.

I settled on a mild load of Bullseye for best patterns, but still need to shoot it over a chrono. With Lil'Gun I went up to a bit over 900 fps, still a very mild load despite the heavy projectile weight (492 grains, as these actually weigh 82gr per my notes, not 80 as previously stated).

Holy hockeypucks!
H mmmmmmmm

Target pictures would be nice

The Governor is a lot lighter and more compact. The Judge would be great if it worked-and it takes the longer shotshells.

Sounds good! 10 yards is probably a good test range for the general intended uses for the load. Thanks, now you’ve given me something else to work on! smile memtb

Bigger, heavier.....Yes! But more versatility. Photo shows, left to right: 300 grain pinker (approx 1000 fps), 400 grain hard cast (max load- hunting), and 1/2 ounce #8 shot in .444 Marlin brass ( small game, snakes, etc.). memtb
Got a chance to snap some target pictures for you guys today. These were shot at 10 yards, with my hand traced on the target for scale.

1st shot, looks like two in the center hole and the other 4 spread around that:

2 more shots on the same target, for a total of 18 wadcutters on paper:

This load was with a mild charge of Bullseye, moving right at 700 fps. It's pretty easy to push these well past 1,000 but for the intent of this load I think this'll do. It does shoot high because of the heavy slow load; this gun is zeroed for a 320gr WFN @ 1700 fps.

What is your intention for this load?

Yondering, That’s pretty darn impressive at 30 feet. Way better than my #8 shot pattern! All be it heavy, and large....the S&W 460, may be one of the most versatile handguns available! Love mine! memtb

Like I said in the OP, it's just for fun. In theory it might be good for blasting vermin or something. In reality for me, it's just an experiment to see what can be done. I have no intention of ever packing that pistol around.
It would be interesting to see what that would do in a ballistic gel block.

Thanks for the reply. Best handgun multi projectile pattern I think I have seen.
I used to do something similar with two .457" (sized down to .452") lubed round balls in 45 Colt for my Ruger Blackhawks. With a small charge of Bullseye running about 600-700 fps they made a very mild low noise small game round that thumped rabbits and such pretty hard without tearing them up too much. That load was fun, it'd flip rabbits over with authority when both balls hit.

Of course a Blackhawk is a lot easier to carry around than this X frame monstrosity.
