I thought I'd post this here as information to others in the market for a small .380. I just purchased a Remington RM380 as I was enamored with the design and size of it and the fact that it had features that the original LCP did not (i.e. ambi mag release, double strike capability and lock back on last round). I've always been a Remington fan but I've had a series of firsts:

1) I've never had a pistol to malfunction out of the box (big confidence breaker right there)
2) Previously, I've never had to deal with a warranty item with Remington

With that said, I took it out for its maiden voyage to the range with factory hardball to try it out and determine if it was carry worthy. That question was quickly answered within the first 20 rounds. The trigger bar would slip past the hammer cam and would not engage the hammer. It looks like the bar is slipping around the outside of the cam. I now have a paperweight that's nice to look at and not much more. However, in researching this issue, it seems as though others are experiencing the same problem:

I'm at the point now that no matter how "fixed" it is, I could never trust this firearm for anything more than plinking. I've owned all other major brands of pistols and have never experienced this. I guess there's a reason why you don't hear Remington in the same sentence as Glock, Smith & Wesson or even Ruger when it comes to handguns. Buyer beware....

I wouldn't have bought the cheap POS to start with.

I bought a RM 380 when they came out. My dealer matched a Cabela's sale price,
and there was an additional $50 rebate offered by Remington.

The pistol worked fine and I liked it - but I found it impossible to extract the
$50 rebate from Remington. A friend also liked the pistol and I sold it to him.
I told him about the rebate and he's still bugging me about it.

I don't think he's shot it a lot. But I can imagine who he'll go after if it breaks.

Now to see if Remington offers a recall on all RM380s like the R51s. Total POS.

Every time someone comes into the shop and asks about Remington pistols, my reply is "Remington makes rifles and shotguns". I usually have to repeat it once or twice before they get it.

Imagine my shock! A Remington pistol not working right.

The sad thing is I really wanted to like this better than my LCP. It had an ambi mag release, locked back on last shot and second strike capability. None of that matters now as it'll never be trusted.

Simplest, very reliable .380 is the Kahr P-380.. If you need/want an ambi-safety model, then the Kimber Micro might be the choice..

Remington is the worst gun company in the world.

Look at all the problems the Marlin line is having since Remington bought them. Sell it, let the customer fix it.

I got the RM380 back after being "repaired". They replaced the trigger bar and corrected the issue with the magazines dragging upon ejection.....


It's still broken. The sear engagement continues to slip while not allowing the hammer to perform full travel.


At this point, I want my money back and it gone. I learned my lesson here. Buyer beware of the RM380.

With top quality micro 9mm’s available why waste ones time on a 380?

Advertise it on Craigslist and sell it for 50 bucks more than you paid for it.. cash only. And forget about it

Interesting. I have exactly 250rd through mine, 100 of which were Speer Gold Dot. The gun has been completely reliable, and I have zero reason not to trust it.

Spoke with Remington; It's going back for another look at repairing. This time it's headed to another warranty repair center. I can't pass this off to someone knowing it has issues.

Just got it back from Sports World (Remington repair dealer). They fixed it. The hammer will strike with every trigger pull. However, the "wall" that's encountered before the hammer falls adds an extra several pounds to an already heavy trigger pull. On paper, the RM380 looked much more refined than the LCP. That's not the case. Buyer beware.

Well, you checked it for function, so now you can sell it or donate it to someone with less discriminating tastes.

I get where you are coming from, I bought a Benneli R1 cause I liked their shotguns, I bought a P365 cause I liked a micro pistol idea with 13 rounds, I bought a V3 Tac 13 cause it seemed like it would be fun, the benelli R1 sucked, the P365 works fine, and the tac 13 is a complete hoot with no problems....on the other hand even I would not buy a remington pistol...
