Won a gun at a local raffle I have no use for, dealer is willing to give me the value towards anything I want to order. Have been thinking of setting up a 10mm with a Micro Red Dot for hunting and playing around. I mostly hunt with my .44 revolvers if I take a handgun. What are the pros and cons of both the Springfield vs the Glock?
Glock 40 MOS would be my choice. They work and are accurate. The jury is still out on the Springfield.
I was looking at Glock 20,40 and Springfield XDM. I went to a very very well stocked gun store yesterday and handled a Dan Wesson Bruin. WOW
The new Springfield longslide 10mm 1911 with optical sight is badass if you got the spare change to afford it.

I only have 100 rounds through my Glock 40 but all is good. Easy to shoot well, very accurate and holds plenty.
The MOS on the G40 is probably your quickest turn key route to a MRS style sight. I don't think the XD is going to be conducive to an easy swap.
You could get a HK USP 10mm and have something better.

The XD-M OSP look pretty slick to me - what am I missing?
Dammmit.......Wasn't aware. That would be my pick. If you were blindfolded and not biased....I think most would pick the XD vs the G20 on ergos pretty quickly
Shot Glocks for 15yrs but never could get used to the grip shape or angle. Switched to XD's 13yrs ago and never looked back. Bought a pair of the 10mm's when they first came out and gave one to Dad.

Converted my 5" Tactical to .460Rowland.

CraigC, which mount did you use? Picked up the XDM today.

Glock 35 MOS in 40 S&W Grab a 9 and a sig barrel while you’re at it. Lighter/smaller load out and mine has been great on deer.

Not sure which .44 revolvers you are using, but Evolution Gun Works and raptor-eng.com make some micro red dot mounts that will work on some revolvers without drilling any new holes. That may be a way to play with and learn about micro red dots without having to invest in a new gun. (I understand you have a "free gun" coming, but this would free you up to pick another revolver or a long gun.) The revolvers might be kinder to a micro red dot than being mounted on a pistol slide, especially a 10mm running hot loads.

Just another option.

That’s what I got.

I had to go look it up. Looks like I ordered the Burris Fastfire base.

with the 40 for deer, what bullet do you use? How much velocity can you achieve with that barrel? Thanks.
1050-1100 with 180s. I’ve used gold dots, XTP’s and one with a cast.
thank you, that sounds like a very useful firearm.
I prefer the ergonomics of the Springfield. Never could get used to the sharper edges of the mag release on the Glocks.

Interested in either an XD 10mm or a Ruger 1911 10mm myself.
Get one jimmyp, don’t be lazy. Get a Gen 4 and don’t worry about the finger grooves, if you squeeze the $hit out of it they won’t matter anyways.

There are a couple of youtube videos on this. Here's one:

Consistent with the second part of the video that g5m linked above, I assume that the XDM will recoil, at least, a bit more than the G40—based on my experience with my XDs and Glocks in other calibers.

I have a number of 10mms, and the G40 produces the mildest recoil in my hands.

If I was being attacked by a Chinese rifle platoon, that G40 would be my pick. But the DW Bruin is my pick for hunting, target shooting, and just holding, looking at, and fondling.

In case it helps, below are some of my 10mm chrono results for a variety of loads and guns.

Although I've puttered around with Glocks since the Gen 1's, maybe 30 years now, the 1911 still feels better to me. Much better.
I am of the KISS school of thought. If it works don't change it. The sorry Glock's have been around for a few years and in my hands can be modified with springs, triggers, strikers, a dremil tool, barrels, etc etc etc. Despite their horrid trigger the things work good enough that you can count on them when the chips are down. If and when I am hiking in a place where I need a firearm capable of driving a 220 grain bullet deep enough into something that weights over 3-400 pounds to make it not kill me it will be fired from something I am familiar with.
