I got an email flyer from CDNN sports offering many “certified pre owned” Sig P-series for sub $500 prices. Scrolling through one model caught my eye, a P229R in .357 Sig. for $489. It was at my dealer two days later.

Everything came exactly as described, sealed in a Sig box, with papers and two mags. I have to say the example I received appears to be NOS, and shows little to no signs of use or wear. Not on the slide, not on the barrel or hood. No scratches on the alum frame. Nothing. It’s been a while since I’ve handled a P-series, but it all came back. Quick strip, removed shipping oil, applied oil and slide grease, shes ready to go. Sweet piece at a sweet price. I can’t wait to send some of these 125gr speedy boys down range.

Nice. I’ve become a sucker for the 357 Sig. I bought one on here several years ago (a Glock 32) I’m sold on it. Your Sig looks like a very sweet setup.

Thanks. All of my Glocks have ended up modified in some form or another. This gun will not receive anything but bullets and lube. It will be a nice center console piece for tooling around the farm and hunting camp.

The only thing about the Glock that I couldn’t tolerate was the trigger. I had that corrected. I would have preferred the Sig platform but...... Enjoy!

When the 228 came out (along with the .357 SIG), a buddy bought one, and we tried it out at 50 yards. I put three shots into about an inch and a half, then I quit, knowing anything else would screw up that group. That's all the .357 SIG I've ever shot. I did like it, of course, but I already had a .38 Super I was loading for, and it did what I needed it to do. So, no .357 SIGs, or SIG pistols, for me.

Ratsmacker, yep, it’s just more Super which is probably why I took a shine to it. I’ve looked at the Sig 1911 in 357 and decided to just stay with my Supers in 1911.

Ease on over to Underwood Ammo and try out some of their 357 Sig recipes.

If you are considering a 9x19 or 22LR top end assy for that P229-
You will need the P229-1 top end assy.
Or a conversion barrel of the same designation.
A Sig 40S&W barrel will drop in the slide using the same Blue color coded recoil spring & magazines as 357SIG.

A P228/P229 9x19 top end assy would require changing the locking block.

An SResetT for a P226,227,228,229 will enhance trigger reset,consisting of an SRT sear & SRT firing pin safety lever.

An SReachT trigger if smaller hands & reach are required.

P226,P228 magazines will latch into the P229 357/40 frame & function properly.

The "E-2" Ergo2 is the one piece grip w/ appropriate mainspring strut,short spring seat & spring.

A Legecy slide w/ 1/2 height rear serrations & short extractor will NOT have the SResetTrigger sear & firing pin safety installed in the frame unless the previous owner had them installed.

An Elite slide w/ full height rear serrations & 1/2 height front serrations will have an SResetT installed in the frame from SIG.

A friend took the SIG build course at the factory that is only about 30 mines from here. I happened to be at the range while he was shooting the two guns he had built. One was a 229/.357 and don't recall what the other was. He had two rounds left that he gave me to shoot...both rounds went in an oblong hole at 25 yards...

Only reason I never bought a 229 in .357 is a) like ratsmaker I carry a .38 Super that runs the same velocity and b) I have three S&W 6906s leftover from my LE days that are the same size as the 229...

This may end up being a forehead slapper for me; but, what is NOS. To some other members, note the lack of quoting his entire post just to address one portion. On to the non-picky stuff. The 229 in 357 sig was my carry piece for about 6 or 7 years. I carried it in a Milt Sparks VM II and it was like they were made for each other. I would say they go together like peas and carrots; but, who would he those god-awful peas. They go together like hot dogs and mustard.

If you're a traditional Sig fan, that's a fantastic bargain.

I owned a Sig P239 in .357 Sig back in the 1990s. Even carried it concealed for a while. Shot it a lot, but could never warm up to it, so eventually sold it. Very reliable, though. Well made guns.

I believe the 357 sig can run a good bit faster than a 38 Super. The Underwood 125 grain 357 Sig is claimed 1450 FPS and often hut 1500+

Sorry, “New Old Stock”. I use this term a lot in the auto industry, and it’s the equivalent to NIB or “new in box” in the firearms world.

No argument with you there... Biggest problem for me would be finding a 1911 that reliably runs .357 SIG. One of my friends had a custom built Combat Commander built by a big name smith in Florida.... .40 works most of the time but the .357 hardly at all. I brought the gun to the smith who built my carry Commander and he could not make it run either and said his prior attempts at making a .357/1911 run 100% all failed...

SIG brought their 1911s out in .357 a few years ago and from the reading I have done "most" work well enough to carry but many have gone back to the factory for "adjustment".

And if I want 1450 fps from my Commander I just drop in 9x23 Winchester that runs just fine in most of my Commanders and GMs.

That and reloading for the bottle neck .357 also has it own set of problems which is why I just shoot factory ammo in my G40 and G32.

GREAT round for most guns chambered for .40 S&W and is what I would want issued to me if I was back in LE...
