Let my Grandson shoot my Wrangler 22LR a few days ago, and he fell in love with it.

So, since I had wanted a Birdshead Wrangler, and my Grandson just had a birthday, I gave him the standard Wrangler.

Then went and bought a Birdshead model! Now we're both happy!

Got a 1-3/4" six shot group with it for my first six rounds at 10 yards. I seem to shoot it better than the standard model.

Am thinking having the sights closer together because of the shorter barrel makes them stand out better for my 69 year old eyes.

nice story and shooting. i have both ruger wrangler models too, probably like the 4.75” plowhandle grip model better because i need the longer sight radius. a wrangler is the perfect gift for a grandson to learn to shoot well, i’m sure that he will treasure it.

How does it compare with a new Ruger Bearcat sze wise?

bigger in all respects. the wrangler is smaller than a SAA, but not a whole lot smaller. the bearcat is kit gun-sized.

The Wrangler is the same frame size as a Ruger single-six.

The main differences are the grooved topstrap which serves as the back sight, (like the old Colt SAA) and an aluminum frame.

The standard Wrangler has a 4-5/8" barrel and the birdshead Wrangler has a 3-3/4" barrel.

Have a pair of Magna-Tusk Aged Stag grips on order for my new Birdshead Wrangler.

Should dress it up pretty nice!

I remembered that I had a Barranti cross draw holster for a Ruger Bearcat that I had sold, in my "spare holster" box.

Tried the Birdshead Wrangler in it, and it fits, but snugly.

Might try soaking it, then squeeze the Birdshead into it, in a plastic bag, then let it dry overnight.

So, at least now, I don't have to buy a new holster for my new handgun!

Still waiting on grips. Should be here soon.

i ordered one of the triple K holsters from shopruger. overpriced, IMO, but the one i have for my bearcat is a perfect fit. i like the thumbsnap retention, too

After soaking the holster with hot water, and jamming the pistol in, and letting it sit by the heater duct overnight, my new pistol fits perfect now.

My new Stag grips came in. They sure look nice on this Birdshead Ruger!

The daughter bought one of those black coated Ruger Wranglers with the plow handle grip. After firing it for a couple of weeks, she actually decided to keep it to teach her daughters to shoot. The next thing she did was to have me install a stainless Ruger Birdshead grip on it. It looks pretty sharp, and I had fun "test firing" it on my range. I've always been partial to the Ruger Birdshead grip frames. I've installed them on my both Single Sixes several years ago.

I like the standard "plow handle" pretty well, but REALLY like the Birdshead .

It just seems to feel better in my hands.
