He zigged when he should've zagged.

That bullet way “overpenetrated”. Destroyed the tenderloins for crying out loud.

Not quite as much splatter but…..

I have a target like that. I was looking through a spotting scope at a target as my dad was shooting some groups at 50 yards with his 10/22 Target. The fly landed and I called it out to dad and he made the shot - splat!

No such thing as being overgunned

A taxidermist’s nightmare, eh?

You didn’t wait ‘til he landed, did you? 😁

Ha ha! Actually was aiming for the left testicle but somehow pulled the shot.

Hunting flies over bait? Not very sporting. Fair chase protocols dictate stalking, and selective culling: only bull flies (leaving females to propagate), and only when in season, and no leaving carcasses to rot in the field.

I wish I were a fly on the wall ( grin ) to eavesdrop the conversations between DD and Muffin at their taxidermist: "I want a full cape mount done on this magnificent bottle fly this time. Just mount the horns of that mosquito I shot last week, and preserve the ants in a realistic tableau."

Rcamuglia: Great shot on the fly there at 50 yards!
Good for you.
I have tried several times to squish a fly with my scope sighted rimfire and centerfire Rifles - at both 50 and 100 yards.
I do NOT think I have ever successfully done so though.
But many years ago (about 55 to be more exact!) I was spotting for my friend who was shooting his then brand new Remington 700 BDL Varmint in caliber 6 m/m Remington with a nifty Redfield 3200 scope in 20 power.
Anyway what we called a "bull-fly" (large fly) came and landed on his target just inches above where his 100 yard group was forming.
Johnny and I saw it at the same time and he says "watch this".
He fired at the fly and it disappeared instantly - but as proof of the hit a drop of blood came oozing down from the bottom of his new 6 m/m bullet hole.
We were gleeful at his feat because back 55 years ago "accuracy" was NOT what it can often be today.
Again good shooting on your part.
Hold into the wind

Still chucklin’ about the taxidermist’s nightmare.

You wankers don’t need to talk to my taxidermist by the way, but I’ll give you a tip. Supersonic bullets will whack bugs without destroying them, you just gotta get close. Maybe a couple inches depending on caliber. Then you put them in the pose desired and let them visit the freezer for about a week. PRESTO!

I charge admission to visit my trophy room.

Thanks VarmintGuy. First time I’ve done it. A buddy sent me a pic of one he smoked with a center fire at 100 a while ago. I had to send this to him for a laugh

I smacked a fly at 7 yards once, with a .45 ACP. It's easier with a bigger bullet diameter. It was an offhand shot, though, so I've got that going for me.

I shot a starling at fifty yards off my target with a Rolling Block 45-70. Feathers all over and a fan of red streaks down the paper in a fan shape. In 1968 I didn’t have a cell phone camera.

Those are cool, do people still say that? To heck with it in my mid 60's I can say what I want.
