My bud who owns a gun shop just took in a Winchester Model 62. The metal is neat perfect, almost looks like its been reblued but if it has been it's the nicest job I have ever seen. The wood has a few marks, nicks, small gouges ext, but nothing major.

What is that thing worth? This is the model with an exposed hammer.
Is the rifle a Winchester model 62 or 62A?

A winchester model 62A, in the condition, would bring from $600.00 to $800.00 in California.

I just bought a mint, unfired Winchester 62A for $695.00. Prices aren't very cheap in California...!

Bill
I guess I dont know the diff, says just 62 on the barrel. What is the diff in 62 and 62A?
I can't exactly tell you the difference between the Winchester model 62 rifle, and the Winchester model 62A rifle.

Somewhere, in my library of books, I have a good book on Winchester Slide action/pump action 22 rifles. I will get it out presently, and see what the difference between the two models is.

I have never seen a Winchester model 62 rifle with a round barrel. And, I have never seen a Winchester Model 62A rifle with an octagonal barrel.

The stamped data legend on a Winchester rifles barrel, will tell you which model, 62 or 62A, the rifle is.

Bill
This 62 has a round barrel.
Hey Stillwater, how is you're 62 in the acccuracy dpt?
For open sights, and 71 year old eyes, the Model 62 will shoot a 3/4 inch group at fifty yards, from a rest. Fifty yards is the greatest distance I have shot with it. I am looking for an older Marbles tang sight to put on it, with an apperature sight, I look forward to it shooting a little bit better.

My model 61 shoots about the same. I want a tang sight for the model 61 too. However, that unusual animal is very hard to find.

Close.......
But no cigar.

Model 62 has a small grooved forearm.
62A has a longer, semi-beavertail forearm.

There may be several differences. I just bought a 62A and it has the exposed hammer. The 62 I looked at did not. James

All Winchester model 1890, 1906, 62 and 62A rifles have the exposed hammer. If you had a Winchester rifle without an exposed hammer, you probably had a Winchester model 61 rifle.

I should say though that I have seen a Winchester model 61 rifle with a 62 barrel fitted to it...!

Bill
My Winchester 62A is a round, 23 inch barrel. The barrel is stamped 62A so I know that's what it is. Aside from the stock being refinished in tru-oil some time back, it's all original. Ain't worth more than $350 in anyone's gun shop, but it, too is a real tack driver.

Wayne
Don't kid yourself, if it is in decent condition, you can get $450.00-$500.00 for it in almost any city, of any size.

But why get rid of it, since it's such a good shooter? Keep it and enjoy shooting a classic rifle.

They'll Bring good Money around Here. Most beaters run $350-$450 and the clean ones Bring $500+.The old Winchesters are better than money in the bank.

I'll bet that is the truth, clear across the United States...!

I saw several in January that were offered as new that were in the $1500.00 price range.

Model 63s new were in the 2K range.

You're causing my wallet to cry, and my gun safe to grin...!

I just bought a mint, unfired, Winchester 62A for $695.00, and I was more than happy to spend the cash for the rifle.

The show was in Greensboro, NC in January. I have an old 62 that was Grand Dad's and a beat up 63 that I purchased from a co-worker that inherited it.

I think they are the cats a$$ when it comes to rim fires, but could not believe the prices they were asking for them. If you should run up on any more deals like that let me know!
Aggreed. The prices here in Mi have gone through the roof. I just bought one that is a nice older gun that was sent back to Winchester in the laste 70's for a re-blue, dont know how much that hurts the value it if any, but on gunbroker and any time I see one in the rack at local shops there 650.00 and up unless its a total POS.
