I saw an article on converting to 22 WMR, not to the Hornet. I don't know how that worked out.

Converting a rimfire, blowback action designed for 10,000 psi to a centerfire that operates at 3 times the pressure (or more) sounds hazardous. If it was even possible, which I doubt (the Hornet is twice as long as a 22 rimfire) I wouldn't want to be the one who fired the first shot.

I googled it and there was a guy that did it. Sounded like the only thing he used fron the 10/22 was the trigger group. His source on Ebay was not open, or it was a bad link. I like to see my options too, check out a couple different companies

Here's the thing I saw 10/22 to 22 Hornet

The confusion is in the name of the company that he got the after market products from - Hornet Products.

He simply replaced the stock Ruger parts with upgrades but left it as a .22 Long Rifle, not a .22 Hornet.

As doubletap noted I don't think it is possible to convert a simple blowback action 10/22 to any centerfire cartridge. You'd have to replace or completely modify the bolt to have a firing pin through the middle, install a different locking system, different exractor, increase the bolt travel for the longer cartridge, increase the magazine well length and use a different magazine built from scratch or at least brand new feed lips, on and on.

Maybe someone could convert one to .25 ACP, those use small blowback actions. It would be an interesting, and pretty advanced, gunsmithing project.

I nearly had "the big one" when I started envisioning folks walking around with Ruger 10/22 "bolts" imbedded in their faces.

I'd suggest that you go back and READ the article again. The guy upgraded the barrel, trigger, and stock from a place called HORNET PRODUCTS, he didn't convert it from 22LR to 22 Hornet.

Even if he wanted to, he couldn't do that conversion as the 22 Hornet is a CF cartridge, is too long to cycle through the 10/22 action, and has operating pressures that are way too high for 10/22 action to handle. Heck, the 10/22 action has trouble handling the 17HM2 unless the barrel length, bolt weight, and recoil springs are in the proper sync.

Ruger had trouble enough with them in .22WRM, and discontinued them - never mind with something twice as powerful.

There's no way the 10-22 Aluminum receiver could survive if used for a 22 Hornet build.
The Ruger 10-22 in 22 Magnum has a steel receiver.

I don't think aluminum is the problem. Look at the AR15, AR10, BAR LW etc.

The 10/22 is just too small dimensionally, and a blowback action design is not suitable.

But oh how fun that sounds like it would be!!! Can you imagine a rifle like that on coyotes...

Now that I'm on the Hornet kick, what gun would you recommend for this caliber?
