Anyone built a custom .22RF Sporter? I have a couple that I purchased already customized, a pre A Winchester 52 and a Springfield 1922M2. Looking for pics of other's rimfire customs to get ideas for my next build.
Here are a couple of mine. The top one is an Erma .22 trainer I sporterized. The bottom on is my Win 52B target that had the barrel bobbed back to 22". I will be starting on a couple more some time this winter when I have time.

Here's my purpose built custom sporter .22 at the 2011 Rimfire Benchrest World Championship. It's built on Turbo custom action with a then Broughton barrel, and custom Pippin maple laminate stock.

I know it is not your standard sporter but it's the sporters we use in benchrest. It now has a different Muller Works barrel with the same profile. Something a little different.
Beautiful piece, but it sure doesn't seem to meet the definition of a sporter as I understand it....

Bob
For rimfire benchrest a sporter, at that time, had to weigh 7.5 lb or less with scope, have no more than a 6.5X scope, a magazine and a convex (even thou ever so slightly) forend and be designed to be shoulder fired. It's just specialized to ride the bags real well and the knob at the end of the barrel is integral with the barrel and is counter bored and crafted by the gunsmith to optimize barrel vibrations. This one is a legit one-holer and a winner.

I don't know if this one counts or not, but it was a 581S Rem. originally. The stock is Bishop stock I reshaped some. The barrel is a Rem. 541T that has been recrowned, rechambered to a D52, and the receiver and barrel are threaded. Lugs lapped and action trued with a second action screw installed. The trigger is a Timney.

I traded a Leupold 2-7 scope for a Remington 40-X receiver several years back. I had Shilen make me a 1-16 Rimfire barrel in their #3 contour which matches Remington's 700 profile. Dropped it in an ADL stock. Plan to restock it some day. For now, I have a 40-X Rimfire sporter for a fraction of what the custom shop charges. Too dark for pictures right now, will try to get some tomorrow.
How the Hell did that photo of the lady get in my post!!!!! That is suppose to be 2 photo's of my rimfire. I don't even know her!!!! It will not let me edit my reply.

Wow guys, some really nice stuff there.wish I could play like that. Maybe in a couple years after two of the three are done with college I can start shopping.
I had this one made from a Brno Model 1. You have to be a .22 lover to understand.

John,
Where have I seen this before?
It was posted on Rimfire Central when I first completed it.
John, did James Anderson build that for you?
Absolutely gorgeous piece. The split grip caps and butt plate are incredible. And that piece of wood.....

That is one piece I would be afraid to take out and use in the woods like I do with mine. Any damage would bring a tear to my eye if it were mine.

I dunno how anyone could look at that ant NOT be a .22 lover. Beautiful!
TejasJuan ... Just wow
Brno Model 1's make a nice basis for a custom, I had one for a while that I was considering making into a custom sporter.
I completely understand. In spades as a matter of fact
Beautiful BRNO. While I'm happy as can be with my BRNO #2, I do find the stamped trigger guard detracts a bit. Where did y'all find the bottom metal on that #1? Shop built?

Here is a pair of rimfire sporters that I put together in the last two years. These are 17 HMR rather than .22's. I like rimfires because you actually get to shoot them... a lot if you want to. I use mine (the top one.) for informal benchrest matches, egg shoots, hunting and my wife uses it for squirrel control.

The making of both guns is documented in the custom rifles forum on AR.

John's gun was the inspiration for mine. When I first saw it I had to have one.
gnoahhh,
Some of the sponsors on this site make machined bottom metal for the CZ rifles. Check the hole spacing to determine if they will work.

John
man do i have stock envy after seeing all these custom sporters in this thread.
texasjohn;
Good evening to you sir and thanks for sharing the photos of that stunning Brno with us. I'd say it's about perfect in every respect.

Many years back my good wife gave me a 1958 No 5 for my birthday and somehow I never warmed up to the original stock.

One winter I decided to go through the black walnut boards in the shop and make one up.

Here's what I ended up with.

It's had about a half dozen different scopes on it since the photo - currently running a steel El Paso Weaver 4x that works okay, but looks right to my eye on it.

Thanks again to you and all the rest who've posted their customized rimfires here.

All the best to you all as we head into winter.

Dwayne
Dick, for an old man, you do pretty good work. They both look great.
