Hi all

I have the bug to "invest" in a new 22 magnum. I want something that really shoots but classic blue and handsome walnut. I've been pricing CZs but I'm wondering what the older and wiser shooters would search for.
Understand, I'm thinking of a high quality gun like and old Kimber, Anschutz, etc. Adult sized stock (I'm 6ft 300 lbs)
I will use the CZ as my baseline. But if there is something worth waiting for that's fine, I am a patient man.

Bolt or single shot. Maybe a lever but they always look weird to me with a scope on them, and I know that I need glass. I'm not just fat I'm old too. lol.

You can put a tang sight on a lever-matic, fits fine. W9422M Deeeeelux........

I'm gonna try that with an old marlin 22 I just found but I'm not feeling optimistic. It would be nice to be wrong though.

Toss a Fastfire on a 9422 instead of a scope....

As an automatic fan I've gone thru several in 22mag--Remington,Ruger,Kodiak,one who's name escapes me till finally settling on the H&K 300.The Ruger was a tack driver but the H&K really out does it.

have several Heckler and Kock 300. They are as good as it gets in a 22 mag. Pleasant to carry and shoot plus extremely accurate. Standard 5 rd magazine but there are 15 rd magazines also.

I would buy a CZ 452 and never give it another thought.

I like my Ruger. Very accurate. Looks nice and has a nice Stock. Easy take-down. Put a Cheap Tasco Rimfire scope on it and you are good to go. I shouldn't say "Cheap", I should say inexpensive.

I just picked up a Winchester 275 (pump) a few weeks ago. Pretty cool gun.

Find yourself a Savage/Anschutz Model 54 Sporter in .22 mag.

I like my CZ 452 extremely accurate.. The 94 is also a dandy but hard to find..

Accurate 22 mags are where you're lucky enough to find one. I've had more than a dozen of them over the years from Marlin, Savage, Mossberg, Winchester, Ruger and CZ. Of those, an old Mossberg 640 chuckster that I foolishly sold and my current Marlin 882 were by far the most accurate. Both were/are honest MOA rifles with their favored ammunition. The rest were 1.5" - 2.5" rifles at best.

I'm old, and tend to go "old school" I'm fond of blued steel and walnut furniture, although some excellent 22 Mags come with hardwood.

And I was lucky enough to find this old school beauty this winter on a local hunting board, a Marlin 25 MN bolt action in 22 Magnum and hardwood furniture. Serial number makes it 1998 vintage, gun didn't have a scratch or mark on it, nor were there any marks on the clip as to catridges being loaded into it. When I cleaned the barrel, brownish (Cosmolene?) came out of it, I don't think the gun was ever fired:

I have a Savage 24 in 22 mag over a 20. It's like carrying an anchor and the trigger can't be any worse. Mine is a designated 4-wheeler gun when I am on the farm.

I had a couple Ruger 77/22 mags. They were very poor accuracy wise.
I now have an Anschutz 1720, it is very accurate with hornady 30 grain plastic tipped bullets.

So, I have a newer JM marked Marlin 983 that was made during the transition. Nifty piece of walnut with fluer de lis pattern cut checkering. Lousy trigger. I haven't shot it (too busy working) but I have high hopes.
What should I expect for accuracy (I think my goal is 1/2" at 50), and if I do see that kind of accuracy would you invest in a Rifle Basix trigger & good glass, or just find a better rifle?

I've been pretty lucky with .22 magnum accuracy. I've had 3 rifles in .22 mag, a Winchester 61M, a Ruger 77/22 boat paddle, and a Winchester 9422. None were MOA guns but all 3 were reliable 1.25 MOA guns. My Contender barrel (10", .22 LR SS match barrel, punched to .22 mag) is in that same category.

The only inaccurate .22 mags I've owned have been revolvers. Single Sixes ... 2 decent, a dozen not. None worse than the S&W 648 I had briefly though.

I have owned a bunch of 22 magnums over the years and now have the Browning LH T-Bolt and the Win 94-22 Mag but my favorite is the T-Bolt. I purchased a H&K 300 back in the 70'S and i liked it, but the trigger assembly would pop out when i touched the release shooting LH and sold it and purchased a Win 94-22 Mag which was a much better rifle for my use.

I've always thought the 22 mag was under rated. Carried a Brno 611 many miles in a Jeep. The semi auto was real handy when you run into a bunch of hogs or coyotes.

I have a Mossberg 640KA that is a good shooter but the trigger fights me at every turn which is why in looking to improve. But that's my only experience with them.
Did Winchester ever make a 320 or an equivalent in WMR?
I'm wondering about the new Ruger American Target too.

I also lean toward Semi Autos in the 22 mag The CZ 611 are good as is the H&K 300 BUT having owned both I now own a H&R 700 Built like TANK and is very accurate.

Between the four I've had over the years...77/22M...CZ 452....9422M....Henry Frontier...believe it or not the Henry was the most accurate.
It doesn't have the soul the others have but it's the only only one that's still with me.

Savage Anschutz is a MOA rifle.

22 mag ammo has evolved and better grade is available albeit pricey. Folks need to test various ammo to determine potential accuracy.

Lastly, heard the Rugers sometimes needed shimming of the bolts to shoot well but they can be tack drivers.

I've got the Ruger American Predator in 22 Mag.

It has a fixed 8X A.O. Leupold scope on it.

Great rifle!

Ruger didn't make these then, but If I was buying one now, I'd look at the target model with the lam stock.

Well, it looks like I'm staying with the Marlin 983 that I already own because I bought a 455 Lux over the weekend in 22lr. Ill be tempted but probably won't buy the magnum barrel for it.

Not hard to find, just hard to pay for!

I have high hopes for this one. The shadows in the bore looked right no matter how I tried to find evidence of a straightened barrel, the barrel channel was evenly inlet around the barrel, action and trigger smooth and crisp, etc.
Good honest walnut with character too.
It was an impulse buy I don't think I'm going to regret.

I like old school. Marlin Model 57 22 Mag.

T Bolt is pretty cool, not a lever, but fast. And, the plastic one has an extra "butt mag"...
