Made these for the kids to shoot at longer distances so they get an instant 'ping' for verification of a hit.

Nice work
I made my own swinging target from a disc of steel out of the scrap pile at work. I welded it onto some black steel pipe and made a flat steel stand for it. It has absorbed countless rounds of .44 Magnum, the disc is undamaged only the black pipe has a couple of dents from errant rounds.
Rimfire power level steel targets are pretty easy to build- even from scrap.

As long as the plate is thick enough.

The hotter .22 Mag a 17HMR/ WSM loads due require hard alloy to prevent holes etc..
If emptying the contents of a can counts, then yes I make my own targets.
I made a gong a while back that was the shape and size of an elk's vital region to shoot at. You can make pretty much any size or shape with a plasma cutter.
I've scrounged them out of the scrap bins at work plus i made a burn profile for 22 spinnng targets/
I also made swinging targets from shaft sluggings.

I heard Disk blades work well.
