I recently purchased a m77/22 from a friend and so far is very accurate. The trigger is heavy so I was hoping to adjust it or add a new spring kit. Anyone have any experience with a kit or adjusting the gun as is?

Worked down my spring a bit with a Dremel grinding wheel sustaining the flats on each end of the spring. Have it exactly where I like it. Do not simply cut coils. Given the ease of assembly/disassembly, it's an easy task to accomplish. A little ultra fine stoning of the sear may be beneficial too. Do some surfing as there are a couple well illustrated web pages around on the subject.

Order a voquartzen or Timneys sear and spring for around 30.00 or so and be done with it.

I put the Timney spring and sear in my 77/22 and it brought the trigger pull down to 2 lbs, according to my trigger pull gauge. I'm not saying the gauge is exact, but I figure it's pretty close.

I've polished/stoned and re-sprung lotsa them. Have some RB and DT's both,upon various 77/22 receiver sizes.

I'd clip coils in a heartbeat.

I have a Dayton in my M77 Mark II All Weather but used the above mentioned aftermarket sear and spring kit in my two M77/22 rimfires. My only complaint with the aftermarket sear kit that I used is no adjustment for after travel of the trigger, but the tree rats don’t seem to care.

DT's are rather exceptional on the average,simply because they reliably connect dots,upon the various sized 77/22 receivers.

If you are not up to the task yourself in terms of modifying the factory sear and spring, I would look into having Randy at CPC do their trigger job to your action. It will break at your desired pull weight with little to no creep and have it adjusted for overtravel too.

Only a bubba would clip coils on the M77... You should know better than that, Stick.. There's 2-3 different ways to make the M77 trigger very good compared to factory..

Springs ain't as intimidating as they sound.

Some platforms get 'em nipped,others get extry added and it all depends on the platform.

While messing with the springs can certainly lighten up the trigger pull on a M77/22 or even a M77 centerfire for that matter, work done to the sear is going to reduce the creep. If you want a truly good trigger out of your Ruger you need to address both, my .02 on the matter anyway. And if you go that far then you might as well place some sort of over travel in place too and be totally happy.

Greggo: I have installed the Volquartsen spring sear kits on all my 77/22's and 77/17's along with several belonging to my friends - all have turned out very well.
I highly recommend the relatively inexpensive and SAFE Volquartsen kit.

IIRC I put a ballpoint pen spring in mine just like my RAR.

It’s at or under 2#, RAR 2.25

Done it both ways with good results. Ended up using the original spring in the one I worked, because the Wolffe one was too light after my mods. Used the Wolffe in my Husky to good effect.

Recently sent a m77/22 to Randy at CPC for “full tune up”. Very happy with the results.

I ordered the volzquartsen sear and spring and finally got around to installing it today. Super easy to install and trigger is lighter and has less creep. Safety operation is a lot harder now. Would it make sense to stone the surface of the trigger that the safety post contacts or does it break in over time?

I would lightly stone the engagement area of the new trigger, not the old safety. I did the same on mine and it took less that two min

Sorry I was thinking about the Dayton trigger in installed on my centerfire not the sear on my rimfire.
