I will start out by saying I tried the search feature several of the phrase but find nothing on this rifle.
I am looking for a new .22 semi-auto and although the 10/22 has been the staple for decades, this new Savage is getting good reviews.
Specifically I am looking at the A22 FV-SR. SAVAGE SPECS
It is brand new version and there isn't much to find about its accuracy with the 16-1/2" heavy barrel compared the the Standard models 22".
I did find the B22 FV-SR with the same barrel seems to be VERY accurate. But worry that because it's a bolt action instead of semi-auto.

Anyone here have one to share their experience?
Any advise on the shorter barrel being a bad choice?

Thanks,
Scott

They haven't been out for long, and most folks are loathe to try something that new. No one wants to be the guinea pig.
There are a lot of Savage fans on rimfirecentral.com, who are brand-loyal. You should probably search over there first.

As far as the short barrel goes, I've got three CZs with 16.5" barrels and they are superb shooters.

Thanks RS....
RFC is a wealth of knowledge. I just find it difficult to navigate.

May not be much help, but I had an A17 that was a tackdriver. Very good accuracy for a semi-auto, about the same as my bolt 17hmrs. Only downside was I got mine in the laminate stock with bull barrel and it was just too heavy for a walkaround offhand shooter so I sold it.

I have the A22 22lr in standard long barrel. Action functions perfectly. My trigger pull is set at 3.5#. Savage magazines work correctly when pushed all the way into action. 25 round mags were less than reliable. As for the shorter barrel I have not seen anyone with one yet. My Accuracy varies some with various ammo. Most group at an inch or less at 50 yards. CCI 40 gr standard velocity is the most accurate in my rifle. A few of the target brands like Federal Gold Match tripled the group size. The new Hunter Match ammo shot very well. Be prepared to try many offerings to find the best accuracy. One thing I have found contrary to advertising is the idea of cleaning from the back of action. Very difficult to use a cleaning rod from breach as hammer is in the way. I use bore snake from magazine opening.
I have a Savage A17 in Boyds pro varmint stock with standard barrel that groups CCI 16gr green ammo under a inch at 100yards. Heavy but very enjoyable target practice.
