Does anyone have any experience with a newer 572 fieldmaster? I have always wanted one. The ability to be able to shoot shorts and longs appeals to me. Had a Henry and wasn’t impressed. So what’s the general consensus on the fieldmaster quality today? Or should I try to find an old one?

Find a good used one.
Know nothing about recent production but a sample of one from the '60s-'70s time frame was a jewel.
I've had one about 40 years. Great little rifle.
We've had 3, all made before Dupont sold Remington in 93 or so
, all good guns. the older ones had better open sights if you're not going to scope it.
Changes were made in 1957 to improve the action bar setup, I would get one made later than that if looking.
Back in my youth,I had a Marlin 39A,my brother had a 572.I was always jealous because he shot 2 to my 1 squirrels.I said someday I'd get one.I finally did a few years back,I guess its all about the A-hole behind the wheel, lol. He really was a good shot, god bless him,he was a great brother, and the 572 is a great gun.I'd look for a 60's-80's model, pricey but worth it.I still have the 39a and the 572
Thanks...will keep eyes open for one.
The newest one I had was about thirty ish years old . I have one now older . They both do fine.
The new ones are good rifles IMO but pretty expensive compared to what you can get a good used one for. What's been said above, Get an older one, pre 90s mfg. You'll save money and if you want to use the iron sights the older stocks work better for that.
