I have a recently-acquired Winchester 69A that's been used/abused/refinished and still shoots the lights out. I am interested in mounting a scope on it. It has obviously been drilled and tapped for this purpose in the past, but I have no idea what mount the previous owner had on there.

I'm hoping someone can help me identify a scope mount that will fit these holes that are already drilled into my receiver so I don't have to drill another set and make this thing look like Swiss cheese.

As the attached photos show, the holes are about 1.65" apart, center-to-center, on the left side of the receiver. There is no cut-out in the stock, which leads me to believe this is a fairly petite, low-profile mount. I haven't come across any information about a side mount made for this action except for the Weaver 48402, which looks too big from the photos I've seen (maybe not?).

Any help would be appreciated. If you happen to have a mount that will fit it and would be interested in selling it, let me know!
I actually *might* have a mount, I'll have to check once I get home tomorrow....only thing that looks odd is the diameter of the holes, look pretty big for a scope base. Send me an email to remind me, I can't check this site from my phone.

Will do, thank you!
Ok, here's what I have...

A couple of them are listed for a 69/69A, but not sure if they will work or not. The spacing on your holes is different from anything I have, so I'm not sure if they simply used some other brand/style of base, or maybe just used whatever they had and made it work. I also have a front base that's made for a drilled/tapped receiver, but didn't have a rear. You may be able to re-drill one of the bases and make it work with your hole pattern, but I honestly don't know.
Maybe a Weaver "N" mount for 3/4" or 7/8" scopes.
Jason280, I think you're probably right; they took whatever base they had on hand and drilled it to make it work. Unfortunately that may preclude my using a base designed for the Winchester 69/69A.

Drilling it again for top-mount Weaver bases like those in your last photo is my fallback option.

260Remguy, do you happen to have an 'N' mount you could measure?

I think this would be your best bet. You could always plug the current holes, and then have the receiver correctly drilled & tapped....it certainly won't hurt the value anymore than the current holes. Looking at the receiver in your pics, it appears to flat along the front and rear of the action...not sure why you couldn't simply have it tapped for the base sets I have and use them for the front and rear. If you decide to go that route, I'll send you two sets to use.
I don't have an inventory of N-mounts, but they were a common and inexpensive pressed steel side that Weaver sold in the 1950's and 1960's. You can find an application chart in any of the annual Shooters' Bibles from that era. That said, I think that Jason280's recommendation would be the best way to go.

I've about run out of patience looking around for a side mount with 1.65" hole spacing for this, so I'm going for the Weaver top mounts. What do you need for a pair of those, Jason280? You can PM me if you want, or email me at [email protected].

Thanks!
Some of the early Mossberg's side mounts measure 1.65". I don't look at this forum often, hope I'm not to late to help.
