Well finally had some good weather to get out and shoot my 22 mags in which 2 of them are recent purchases. The Savage A22mag out shot both the Remington 597m and my Marlin 922m. The 597 came in a close second with the Marlin not to far behind. I shot 7 different varieties of ammo in each and the A22 and 597 was about equal as far as grouping different brands the Marlin seems to like heavier lead. With all of this being said the Marlin 922m wins the beauty contest and none of them missed a lick.
Last night I watched a video by Youtuber USOG who related his range test of all the .22 mags he had. Not very comprehensive because he only used one type of ammo, IIRC, but the winner was a Mossberg Chuckster.
Since those are all autoloaders, it's probably really smart to keep the chambers clean and dry, to avoid the issues the older rifles seemed to always suffer from. Ruger, and almost all the others, discontinued the WMR autoloaders when people wouldn't clean them, then fuss about the rifles firing out of battery, or jamming. I shoot a CZ 512 autoloader, and I make it a practice to keep it as clean as I possibly can. So far, no issues
. I do know some folks who had the 10/22Ms, and yes, they went KABOOM every now and then, including one that was all dolled up with a custom stock and barrel. Luckily, his granddaughter, who was shooting it that day, didn't get hurt, but it sure spooked her.

What kind of range were you shooting? 50 yard, 100 yard? And what size groups on average?
Good to hear about the A22M as I just got one yesterday. Could have gotten a used 597M for $30 less and a used 922M for $80 more. The 922M is def the best looking of the three.
I was shooting at 50 yds. My Savage was touching holes with the CCI savage A22 ammo 35gr. Game Point and Hornaday 30gr. V max. My Remington was shooting 3/8 groups with Armscor 40gr. JHP. My Marlin was 3/4 groups with CCI 40 gr. JSP. I plan on trying some federal 50gr in my Marlin I keep reading heavier bullets are better for that model. All of these was 5 shot groups, I tried every brand with different grains but Remington and federal.
I have CCI 40 gr hollow points, 40 gr CCI Game Points, and 50 gr Federal Game Shock.
Update. I crowned my Marlin 922m and now it is hitting as good as my Savage A22 mag. Using CCI 40 grain JHP

I've had a 10/22Mag since back when they were being sold, but it's been shot hardly at all. I remember hearing they had problems with those guns but don't remember the specifics. What was the flaw, why was it discontinued?
I had thoughts on a 922--thats when I had a camp 9 and was looking at a camp 45 but it never worked out--the 922 looks like a nice shooter

They were plagued with extraction issues. In part because of the extractor. That can be replaced. In part because the tungsten bolt created extraction/ejection issues. The tungsten bolt was also brittle. That can be addressed by adding a polymer bolt buffer. Mine has a HORRIBLE trigger. Even with that it will go MOA at 100 yards only with VMax ammo. It won't hit a softball with 50 grain stuff.
