Ordered up a Honda Pioneer 520. This will be used for snow plowing approx. 300' of multiple driveways. Average northeast snowfalls, usually no more than 12" at a time. What size plow should I get for this 50" wide machine?

Congratulations on the new machine. You ordered it, did they say how long it would take to come in?
A 60" or 66" blade is typically used on a 50" machine. Do you have sidewalks or posts to clear?

Ordered in Nov.. Supposed to be here in mid Jan.. Hasn't come in yet. Hoping in a couple of weeks. No sidewalks. Just 2 driveways and a path to the woodpile and backdoor patio. I've been plowing for years with my Yamaha Kodiak 400. 4' plow. Maybe I'll just modify that and get one of those fast winches.

I have a 60" blade on my 50" Razor. When set at an angle, it just clears the tires. It'll take a little more power to push a 66". I don't know if the Honda has it or not. Mine is an 800. I bought it 4 years ago just as we were entering a drought that's still going. I haven't plowed more than 4" at a time in 4 years.

60" - Good to know. I'll check out that Warn ProVantage Winch. Thanks
The advantage of a bigger blade is you can clear a lighter snow quicker. You can take a smaller cut in heavy snow. I've always run out of traction before running out of power in low 4x4.

Guy50 - What model of Warn ProVantage Winch are you running?
ProVantage 3500, converted it to 3500S, overkill for plowing. The ATV in full kit with me on it is almost 1,000 pounds. I wanted plenty of pulling power to pull it up a creek bank, through axle deep mud, after the engine stalled from water. Ironic that it has never been stuck after upgrading to the 3500.

What's the difference in the 3500 and 3500S?

S is for synthetic line.

If you go with a synthetic rope...During a good snow, you'll put more wear on the rope than you will during 10 years of normal use. Put on a pulley fairlead made for plowing. It'll save a lot of wear on your expensive rope. I went 1 farther and got a 10' rope just for plowing. It takes me maybe 30 min twice a year to make the rope and fairlead changeover.

My Razor has winch control buttons on the top of the gear shift. I was constantly hitting the 'in' button and straining the winch trying to pull the hook through the fairlead. I fixed that by putting a double pole toggle switch on the dash. Both the in and out wires from the gear shift to the relay run through it so when it's off, the winch is completely dead both ways.

Synthetic line and fairlead. I switch to the plow fairlead for plowing, takes 2 minutes. Installed this rope 4-5 years ago, no breaks yet. Warn makes a 1.5"x5' plow strap you can install instead of the short rope. Either short one will be a slower line speed.

You got the machine yet? How ya like er?
Posted By: Taconic11 Re: Honda Pioneer 520 - 04/30/21
Yes. Received it late February. It seems that they are hard to get. No other Dealer in the area could give me a confirmation. Have used it just around the yard hauling firewood. Haven't got it in the woods yet. So far, very nice. Dealer says it's the best out there in it's class. We'll see what it can do when I get it up in the Hollow.

Reason I bought it? Got tired of rodeoing my Yamaha Kodiak 400, so I sold it to a Hemp Farmer, who needed it in the fields. SxS's are so much safer. No snow plowing for the Honda 520. Snow plow going on the Yamaha Viking. Bigger machine, low range and 4 wheel lock if needed.

Copy that, just picked up a pioneer 700 couple weeks ago, love it.

Let us know how out works out for you. I'm considering one of those myself.

I run a 66" plow on my Polaris Sportsman 850.

No 4 wheel lock on the Honda? That could leave me stranded in some unpleasant places. My Polaris RZR locks up tight.
