Kawasaki Bayou 220 - 24hourcampfire

I'm going to buy one of these in a few days, if the bank loan comes through and if the company still has one left by then(there on sale for 2999.00 here in Alaska), so I was wondering if anyone has one. Whats your experience with a Kawasaki, and with their Bayou model? Thanks. ~~~Suluuq

One of my uncles had one several years ago. I used it a couple times and was pretty pleased with it. Only bad thing I noticed was that it didn't seem to have much ground clearence. A friend has one thats maybe 10 years old that gets abused on a daily basis and it's still running strong.

Suluuq,what are you going to haul with it? If you are going to use it for anything other than carting yourself around, I would encourage you to consider a larger machine (been there, done that) I went from a 200 Honda 3-wheeler to a 185 Kawasaki Bayou, to a Yamaha Timberwolf 250 to a Honda 400 Foreman 4X4. (See a pattern here?) I have found that the smaller machines are for light duty transportation at best, better to go bigger if you plan on hauling gear, game or a trailer. regards, badger.------------------ Keep the traditions alive, take your child hunting.....

LSU fan. Badger... thanks for the info. Yes, Badger, I took the motor size into consideration. We won't be doing much with it, mostly for taking the kids to school, to the store, and just bumming around town. That sort of thing. We still have our old 'horse', an '86 TRX 250 that still works(most of the time. Winter keeps it frozen up on occasion). We want a new one, the old one is getting, well... older. We turned in the 'paper work' to the bank, had my Mom co-sign, and we should be approved by tomorrow, and have the new ATV by next week. Thanks. ~~~Suluuq

I just got the Bayou 220 today. My first impressions are that its a nice wheeler. But thats just looking at it. Now, after riding it for a while today, I think we'll have a dandy time with it. I am very happy we bought it. ~~~Suluuq

Suluug: If you use it in the woods, be careful of those wash out's. Running off over a 4' drop or embankment can hurt. Anything deeper can be catastrophic. I work close to a rock quarry, and there's a wash near by with dense brush right up to the side with a 60' drop. Couldn't see it in time to stop, even if you were only doing 5 mph.Phil

Badger... one of these days I'll post some pics. I'm still adding some accessories. I think I'll add a clear wind shield, for winter use(keeps the dang cold tolerable). Grey Ghost... We don't have any woods here, just flat/hilly tundra. We will use it for town transport, and on the beach(down the coast, where I search for mastedon ivory, pic-nics, etc). Today, we're having a cold spell, like as if it were mid-winter all over again. The Bayou was froze up, and wouldn't start. I wonder if this is whats to come of it(frozen) come next winter? I may add a heat pad on the bottum of the crank case, to keep the oil warm. ~~~Suluuq
