Dad of one of my buddies over in a neighboring state rode his ATV up to a gate, left the ATV in gear with handle bars turned when he dismounted, got off to open the gate, jumped back on his ATV, his right knee hit the throttle before he was seated, the thing shot out from under him breaking his back, he is 78 years old, it's going to be a hell of a rough recovery, if he can recover at all.

It just takes a second, be careful out there this year Men.

Update, Bud thought dads back was broke when calling last night, the old man is beat to hell pretty good, hip, back, elbow, wrenched knee, neck and back of head, glad he's not paralyzed, just a safety FYI.

Good news Gunner. Glad he didn’t break his back or was paralyzed!

Thanks Neal, quiet a tumble for the old cowhand, he was hungry, it was getting late/dark and he got careless, that's usually how it happens.

Complacency is the root of many failures,
across a broad spectrum of issues.

And hard to avoid.

After all,
"I'm more careful than most,
It will be fine".

Who isn't guilty?

On an ATV site I'm a member of, one of the guys shot through some shallow water, hydroplaned, and ended up rolling the four wheeler sideways several times, with him under it. Broke several ribs, lots of smaller injuries, and might have drowned if he had been alone. Bike had him pinned under the surface.
Yes, some caution is a good thing.

Yep, a good reminder. Hope he has a speedy recovery.

People forget how dangerous they can be. Good friend's wife was driving down the dirt road by their farm about a month ago. She was letting her 7 yr old grandson "Drive" while she sat behind him. He got too close to the ditch and the soft sand caught the front tire and rolled them over. Threw him from the ATV, but it rolled over on her and was upside down on top of her. She lost consciousness and they were over a mile from the house. Grandson ran all the way back and found my friend.

By the time he got there, she was awake and alert, but still trapped and the ATV had also been leaking fuel and oil all over her. She ended up with a broken pelvic bone and arm and had a brain bleed. Bruised up insides pretty bad too. Spent couple of days in ICU, but is home on the mend now.

Dang, glad to hear she's on the mend, also glad jr. was able to run to the house for help, could have been much, much worse.
