Good question, been wondering about this for years now.

On my Honda 700 I use the floor mount and it works great

I’m using an overhead in my Honda 1000

I drape the sling over the shifters (HLNR and 4wd) which are dash mounted on my UTV. Sling over them and butt on the floor.

Not fancy, and I didn't get pleasure of spending a dime for it, but it works.

I've got an overhead rack in my Polaris Ranger. Only complaint is the Velcro on the straps that hold the gun in place doesn't hold them very good. I've actually had a rifle to come out and bang me on the head a time or two.
