Was at a gun auction this eve where there was a savage model 340v chambered in 225 win. I have one that I bought about 2 yrs ago for 350 bucks. This one at the auction brought 1100. Hmmm...not sure they are worth nearly that , must be a case of 2 guys that wanted it badly!

I had one in .30-30 Win. when I was a kid. While working oversease my dad and brother in law used it to go hunting in Junction and between them they lost it. Pissed me off bad. If I run across one for under $400 I'm buying it. I'd really like one in .222 Remington.

$1,100 would be a stretch even for a NIB Winchester 70 in 225 WIN. A NIB Savage 340V in 225 WIN might be worth half that. I've owned four or five Savage 340Vs in 225 WIN and didn't pay more than $350 for any of them. I've always thought that the single locking lug Savage340 action was only marginally strong enough for the 225 WIN, marginal enough such that I wouldn't want to shoot them.

Just so y'all know, I've got one in .223 Rem that y'all can have for $1100. I'll throw in the scope and the extra magazine.

Heck, for $850, I'll sell you the one I got for the Mooselette in 30-30. Scope, mag, and a pink sling.

Those Savage 340's are great rifles. I had one in 30-30 years ago that I used to reload for. It was accurate and fun to shoot. When you reload for 30-30 and can use BTHP bullets, the 30-30 has a totally different personality. I sold it in a fit of, "I see something I can't live without" and now I'm sorry I did. I've see them on GB go for over $400.00.

That sounds suspiciously like a progressive perspective.

There was a very nice Revelation version on GB the other day, with a nice stock devoid of the usual crappy pressed checkering. Nice as any I've seen, but no way would I give more than $400 for that one or any other. For $400, I can get a spanking-new Henry SS with a nice walnut stock with perfect machine-cut checkering, and in a modest selection of cartridges, truly a bargain, and no apologies needed for its looks.

The beater 340s I've seen around here in gunshops usually go for less than $200, complete with a crappy scope.

Can't put a price on nostalgia, I suppose. Fortunately, those hold none for me.

Well they're certainly not a pretty rifle but they sure look better to me than most of the plastic economy shyt rifles on the market today.. Damn those Ruger Americans, T/C compass etc. just make me want to retch. My first dedicated CF varmint rifle was a 340 chambered in .222. It was very accurate and I slew a pile of woodchucks with it. I personally wouldn't give a wooden nickle for a break open single shot from any maker but that's just me. They all just remind me too much of all those cheap old break open single shot shotguns no matter how you dress them up.

I didnt have a problem with the rifle, actually kind of like it! I painted the stock tan with black webbing, got a custom made top mount made with a picitinny rail(instead of the side mount), and had the trigger pull lightened. It shot The 40 grain vmax at about an inch with a velocity of 3750.The only reason I sold it was the recoil was too high to spot my shots.

Well, the 1906 and model 59, 60 and 67 Winchester .22 rifles were "crappy economy grade rifles too, but look what they are worth now. I just bought a 67 last year for $100.00. I was offered $200.00 by a guy at the range when I was shooting it this spring.

I got a Springfield 840 [Sav340] 30-30 for $75 on 5/14/2005.
I got a Savage 340B 30-30 for $119 on 12/29/2016.

I wondered how to get the barrel nut off, for rebarreling to 25/35.
In Jan 2017 I contacted LeeRoy Wisner who seemed interested in Sav 340s.
I was shocked how smart the old guy was.
He said to use pin gauges in a crescent wrench.

All a matter of personal taste, but I can tell you for certain after taking a couple of the Henrys apart to change the mainsprings that there's nothing cheap about them, just simplicity. No plastic, no aluminum even that I saw, just steel and walnut. The Henry levers leave me cold, just personal taste again.

My skin still crawls whenever I see a Savage 340! $35 would be BIG money for that ugly devil! lol The Savage pump was a much better looking, better handling rifle, but of the only two I ever saw, they would not shoot worth crap. Go figure.

Obviously not worth half that if it sold for that. Sure wouldn't pay that myself but someone felt it was worth it. The prices various 340's go for around here vary considerably. I paid less than $200 for both of mine, one a 325 in .30-30 and the other a .322 in .22 Hornet. Recently, an average grade .222 sold for over $500, the next week a very nice .222 sold for $350.

Yeah, I've always wanted one o f those. The few I've had the opportunity to buy were not original, thus not appealing at the asking price.

Despite being ugly, both my 340's are more than worth what I paid.. They both kill critters dead!
